Mr. Gilbert Kermundu, the Chief Government Valuer, delivered opening remarks on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, @ministry_lands, at the Training Workshop on Condominium Administration and Management at the Imperial Royale Hotel. He welcomed stakeholders and participants, acknowledging their efforts to attend and highlighting the importance of the workshop in reflecting on the real estate sector's role in achieving national goals.
Kermundu emphasized the significant contribution of the real estate sector to the GDP and the importance of housing as a primary investment for households, which also affects financial stability. He outlined the government's efforts to streamline the sector, including launching the National Physical Development Plan, establishing a physical planner's registration board, developing the Valuation bill and national valuation standards, and creating the Real Estate bill.
He noted the rapid urbanization and population growth in Uganda, stressing the importance of maximizing land use and promoting condominium living to address the housing deficit and achieve various national objectives, such as attracting foreign investment and building climate resilience. Kermundu also highlighted the need for green initiatives in the condominium sector to address climate change and enhance marketability.
He discussed the evolving role of homes and the need for new housing typologies to meet expanding user needs. Kermundu emphasized the Ministry's commitment to building stakeholders' capacity to implement the Condominium Property Act and addressing challenges in the sector. He encouraged technical exchanges of ideas among various stakeholders during the workshop and announced a stakeholder consultation on the Real Estate bill.
In conclusion, Kermundu thanked the participants and organizers, declared the workshop open, and expressed his anticipation of receiving recommendations for consideration after the training.
