@US10thAmendment @LDS_Dems "Hasn't worked yet" <- It has though. Universal, no-cost access to effective contraception is proven most effective for reducing abortion rates. That's welfare right there. Makes sense, it lowers unintended pregnancies, which is the biggest cause for abortions.

I think it is a stretch to claim abortions are going down. We kill more babies in abortion per year than in 1973. We are below the peak years in 80s/90s but we can't claim we have made much of a dent in the numbers. If ICE unintentionally killed 10 babies there would be indignation. Oue society kills 1m babies a year mostly as elective birth control and we talk about more welfare to fix it. Hasn't worked yet but maybe we are one daycare away from convincing everone not to kill our offspring in the womb.

I have found most MAGA Latter-day Saints get mad at me for two reasons: 1. Like the Church, I refuse to adopt a maximalist attitude towards abortion. 2. Like the Church I support a balanced, humane attitude towards immigration. I support the Church. Not false extremes.

So I was sitting in the Joseph Smith memorial building at temple square listening the beautiful Christmas music. And I remembered the story of the Germans and the British laying down their weapons on Christmas Day. I had a couple of hours to kill… so I decided to reach out to John Dehlin and asked if I could take him to dinner. This time… He accepted. Peacemaking does not require we compromise our values. It does not require we allow others to abuse us. But we should remember especially at Christmas time that while we are to never compromise our convictions, one of those convictions is to still love those with whom we totally disagree. Merry Christmas everyone.

When they go by for a referral or an appointment and the doors isn't opened, the missionaries ask why they weren't there for the appointment and they'll tell them they thought they were ICE.

A friend w/ a relative currently serving a Latter-day Saint mission in Florida shared that “[they] told us today how the ICE raids are negatively affecting missionary work. People won’t open their doors for missionaries (especially elders) because they think they’re ICE agents.“

And because of all the attention media is giving it, the perception is that there is most definitely more ICE activity.
