It's scary how much I can get done when I: – Have no disctractions – Take some ADHD meds – Mentally prep myself to focus – Throw some caffein & music in the mix If I could sustain this 24/7 I'd be riiiiiich.

Likewise. I feel dirty every time i open up the codebase in PHPStorm 😅 it’s a bog standard MVC framework, just very old and outdated. I don’t understand why it was used as the framework of choice when the OG dev used Laravel for other projects and would have been version 8 at the time. . Oh well - i’m moving it all to Laravel now slowly but surely.

Is there a PHP package that you love to use every time? Ideally, it's: - Not tied to a specific framework. - Not too niche (like psr/http-message). - Can appeal to a large audience (unlike psr/http-message).

Why do I have the worst luck with airbnb wifi. Like what year is this? You're telling me this is my life for the next 5 weeks?

@benjamincrozat Probably illuminate/support. Basically the best helpers from Laravel, but easily includable in any project.

Has anyone used FuelPHP before? I’m migrating a fairly large application from FuelPHP into @laravel. I’m not a fan at all. It also looks like the project has been abandoned.

You can be strong and kind. Strong and approachable. Strong and sincere. No need to pick one or the other.

What's one thing you often got wrong when you started with Laravel, or you still do? I'll go first. I often forgot the return on a relationship and wondered why I didn't get any results back. With no errors being thrown, it was difficult to debug 🙈 PS: This does not happen anymore due to return types 🫡

Ok it turns out that UK law stipulates if no written agreement or contract has been made, then by default the developer holds the IP and copyright to the source code (not if you’re employed by them though). Now on to drafting my response…

Good afternoon one and all. I have a question for all the dev bosses out there. And I really could do with your guidance and opinions please ‼️⁉️❗️ The scenario: You are asked by a biz friend to develop an application for their client but to give a decent discount because more work would definitely come from it. You give the discount, and do the work. You even keep it on your servers and don’t charge. They pay. One of those typical pain in the butt client. About 12 months down the line with no additional work gained, you receive an email from another developer requesting the full source code so they can take it over. 1/ Do you cut your losses and just hand it over (and say to yourself ‘more fool you). 2/ Or do you try to recoup money you lost from giving discounts and free server space? Do you even own the source code? No contracts or agreements were signed. Asking for a friend 👀

@Shpigford I think there’s something to this, so much so, that I’ve purchased around 100 domains over the last 6 months, with around 15 that I could build small tools for (the rest are blogs or micro-saas). It cost a “small” fortune 😅 but I’m looking forward to getting the first ones live.

💡 Simple Software Holding Company Look for expiring .com's with keywords that imply some sort of simple tool you could build on top of it. Should have existing backlinks and even better if it's got traffic. Build said tool. Ideally self-contained with no need for third-party APIs. Stuff you can just throw on any server. Single-page calculators, etc. Put ads and potentially some highly targeted affiliate links. Revisit once a year to tweak monetization. Hold for 10+ years. Do this 100+ times. You'd need some capital to get started (half-decent .com's would likely set you back at least a few hundred bucks each), but it's the digital equivalent of buying land, making minor improvements to it, and then holding while it appreciates in value. Now: please poke holes in this. Why is this flawed? What am I not thinking of? Is the internet too established for this to work?
