@Lord_Talbot64 @CarolineLucas There's no point in even entertaining her with a response. She'll never separate practicality from her net zero ideology, even if we were being attacked and our lives depended on it

We currently import gas from Norway which gets it from the North Sea, the same place we will get it from. The difference is if we import it from Norway it is a cost to the country and no revenue for the government. If we use our own reserves there is huge tax revenue for the government. It is stupid to import when we have our own resources.

A terrible decision, and one which will do huge damage to the Government's climate credentials. As Ed knows, this drilling won't lower bills, but instead it sends a clear message that Britain won't be a world leader on ending oil and gas exploitation

@DannyDrinksWine I saw this in the theater at the age of 8. I loved the movie and now at 50 I look back and it is still my favorite of the series.

Steven Spielberg explains why he didn't like 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' (1984) & why he felt he was fated to make the movie: “I wasn’t happy with 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' (1984) at all. It was too dark, too subterranean, & much too horrific. I thought it out-poltered 'Poltergeist' (1982). There’s not an ounce of my own personal feeling in 'Temple of Doom'. I look back and I say, ‘Well, the greatest thing that I got out of that movie was I met Kate Capshaw. We were married years later that to me was the reason I was fated to make 'Temple of Doom'.” ("Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: An Oral History", Paul Bullock, Medium, 2017)

@PippaP22 Spot on. So many of us must feel this atm and are trying to gauge what the future will look like here now going forward. Also where most of us are so we can stick together 💪🏼I don't want to watch a train crash in slow motion, I want a country that's safe & excelling

*I should add, this isn’t about racism, or ethnic purity. It’s about something much more profound: It’s about wanting the same for every country across the world - that they ensure they are cherishing and protecting the things that make them what they are - the things that make them culturally unique and special.

I never used to think much about who I am. But now I think about it all the time. I’m a Christian. I’m proud of being British - I know we’re not perfect, but overall I think we’ve done pretty well. I’m patriotic and pro-monarchy (I know they’ve had their issues but I’m balanced enough to know that doesn’t mean the whole institution should be abolished). I always buy a poppy for Remembrance Day because I want to honour the people who gave their lives to protect our values. So how did those fundamental parts of me suddenly become so unacceptable? I can’t change, so where am I supposed to go in a country that doesn’t want me anymore? That thinks it’s offensive to even wave my national flag? And have younger generations really thought this through? Have they realised that the country they assume their children will grow up in really might not be there anymore?

Your comment seems racist. Is it because they are mostly white that you don’t like them? Imagine the level of ignorance that you think that all pensioners live in homes worth 900k. Rent is high because there are 17m more people that have arrived in 25 years. These are people that rebuilt the country after the 2nd world war. They paid NI for 40 years and the state pension is well below inflation 40 years. Many of these pensioners also topped up NI on the basis that they would receive a higher state pension to break that would be a break of the social contract. Maybe you should stick to tech consulting.

Reform supporting Boomers after their triple lock is secured, sitting on houses they bought for £24k now worth £950k, final salary pensions, free uni, cheap energy, no cost of living crisis, no major war, no AI threats Meanwhile their grandson: – paying £1.5k rent for a mouldy box room – facing the highest inflation in 50 years – energy bills that look like phone numbers – petrol prices flirting with “sell a kidney” territory – competing with AI for entry-level jobs – told to “just save harder” while avocado toast costs £6

@benleo444 @HasAhmed_ Plus the fact this is nothing to do with the pensioners that are now the scapegoat. This is on successive governments & their policies. You can't now change the goalposts, the funds just have to be taken from all the areas we're currently wasting it on. Aspiration must prevail

Your taxes (including NI) didnt pay into a state pension they paid for day to day spending, you have no automatic right to one The current non-means tested triple lock pension is both unaffordable and immoral. Time to get a grip.

No one has ‘paid into’ the state pension. NI payments are spent by the government of the day, not put into a pot with your name on. Using these terms just perpetuates the myth that the state pension is a contributory scheme. It isn’t. It’s a non-means tested universal benefit paid for by current taxpayers.

Why would young people stay in boomer commie Britain? With every party in Britain promising to keep the triple lock on pensions, Gov. deficit growing, taxes rising… I moved to the U.S., I know lots of young people who have moved to Dubai. It’s easier than ever to get out.

@boot15_vu @WilliamClouston Nothing is proactive anymore, only reactive. Whether defence budget or affordability of pensions, we're just constantly firefighting because we have (and have had) weak leaders who won't do what the public want them to. And instead we all have to suffer and see our perks removed

By 2027, there will be 3million pensioners who pay higher or additional rate tax. These people, by definition, are in the top 20% of all UK earners. Yet they will still receive a £12K a year state pension, in a direct transfer of cash from the poorer young to the wealthier old.
