@max_webster @NadiaMHalim @RobertJSawyer Cameron, Black Bull, and the Rex are all still going I believe - not my end of town though, show me a picture of someone wearing a Polar Pubscrawl (along the Danforth) shirt and I’ll be more confident

@TroyMac113 @asifintoronto “Recently”? Like, 20 years ago when it was first published? Show me a recent instance where any religious group has lobbied for Potter books to be taken out of public schools.

Is there a better example of how conservatives live in an alternate reality than a Conservative government getting books taken off the shelf, and other conservatives are publicly complaining that it's due to leftist wokeism?

@DanielJohnWebb8 @maxfawcett @RGAM007 Because it’s collected on actual usage and returned on average usage. So if your carbon footprint is lower than average you get more money overall, and if it’s higher than average you get less overall.

@Noahpinion What's your take on this explanation? twitter.com/elonmusk/statu…
Elon Musk@elonmusk

@BretWeinstein 1. Substack links were never blocked. Matt’s statement is false. 2. Substack was trying to download a massive portion of the Twitter database to bootstrap their Twitter clone, so their IP address is obviously untrusted. 3. Turns out Matt is/was an employee of Substack.

Interesting. Hannah-Jones is saying that 1619 *shouldn't* be the date of the founding of the country -- that if we're the country we ought to be, then 1776 was our true founding.
Tom Elliott@tomselliott

@nhannahjones @GovRonDeSantis Hannah-Jones: "Do we want to be the country that begins in 1619 with the practice of slavery, or the country conceived in 1776 with the ideals of liberty and equality? It’s unknown. We’re always are seeing the tension and the fight between the two halves."

@Fetzie_ @thatmaninahat @benedict_rs I’m just saying if there are thousands of bears in Slovakia today and they killed a guy in 2021 then maybe a thousand years ago a traveller might be concerned about leaving stew unattended for the day. It doesn’t feel like a giant stretch.

@Ditaguy @thatmaninahat @benedict_rs I dunno, seeing a bear in the wild west of Belarus or Ukraine is such a rare occurrence that nobody ever thinks it might happen. That's like once in millions of lifetimes kind of rarity.

@Fetzie_ @thatmaninahat @benedict_rs There seem to be a fair number of wild bear populations across Europe today. In a fantasy setting, if it’s not medieval Britain specifically, danger of bear or hippogriff or local equivalent still seems likely. Whatever rolls up on your random wilderness encounter equivalent.

@Ditaguy @thatmaninahat @benedict_rs There are still some brown bears around, but outside of the Carpathian Mountains it’s like “there’s 30-50 in the entire country at most”. You’re more likely to encounter a zoo escapee than a wild-living bear in most of Europe.

@Fetzie_ @thatmaninahat @benedict_rs I think depending on your fantasy setting, I’d expect bears to be a risk - they went extinct in Europe in the early Middle Ages I think? I am informed by Canadian camping experience, where leaving unattended food (and fires) is definitely bad.

@Ditaguy @thatmaninahat @benedict_rs Very well fed bears might be sleepy and then that becomes part of the adventure 😉 Also, unless you’re in the Ural foothills, wild bears aren’t really a consideration outside the Americas.

Republicans are against being "woke" But what does "woke" mean? Ryan Newman, Ron DeSantis’ General Counsel, defined it in court last week. Woke is "the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them," Newman says. 🤔
