@jonbrooks it's wild that it's 14k a year for transportation. in our household it's maybe 20% of that with a paid off car.

@cwik_greg @johnsemley3000 can't wait I have mine on pre-order - where did you get it?
English

@johnsemley3000 It's the best post-Gaddis American novel. And Gass himself was deeply influenced by Gaddis.

@conor64 @SwipeWright @StoicCraftsman This will be the most impactful life change for me as a result of twitter for all time

@SwipeWright @StoicCraftsman Peter Suderman got me adding salt (3 drops of saline solution.to a Negroni, e.g.) to cocktails for this same reason

@jadethebpdcoach BPD is, actually, a hopeful diagnosis. When I undiagnose a "bipolar" patient I say something like this: "good news, you don't have bipolar, you have BPD, and there is much to do about it!" BPD is tough, the suffering is real. But I've seen growth and change in so many folks.
English

I hate to tell you this, but there are a LOT of people with BPD who are totally fine with their diagnosis, don't give the label a whole ton of thought, are in treatment and happy with their progress, or even out of treatment and living functional lives.
One of the main reasons I stay on these miserable platforms is to actively disrupt the narrative that "BPD is bad" or that every clinician who diagnoses someone with BPD wants them to live with a horrifying, stigmatizing diagnosis that doesn't really exist, or that every clinician wants to trap you in an endless cycle of payment plans to suck you dry.
There are a lot of awful, harmful, INCOMPETENT clinicians. I see it all the time.
And there are a lot of clinicians and patients doing just fine, working together to build lives that are functional, and worth living.
Don't let the internet convince you that only one reality exists.

@DrCamiloOrtiz the sad thing is this is exceedingly common. I see so many cases where someone has been in "therapy" for YEARS and still remain depressed, dysfunctional, and unhappy. What's interesting is often the patient is resistant to change due to enmeshment. it's a Folie a deux.
English

A lot of bad therapy is rumination, but just with two people in the room.
It is often characterized by reassurance-seeking, avoidance, and inaction.
If you've been in therapy for a while and you have not gotten better, and your sessions seem like an endless loop of the same thing, it might be time to switch therapists or stop therapy.

@SamAdlerBell it's a great game. a lot of down time. but you can't beat the drama. American football and basketball can't touch it.
English

@noahkaufmanmd @DrSuneelDhand the best doctors I now routinely get a lot of complaints because they actually practice good medicine like avoiding starting opiates and benzos, using testing and technology judiciously, and act on evidence. any time you get a doc everyone loves watch out - there is a problem!
English

@DrSuneelDhand Would be interesting if we had matrix and we could just rate physicians based on all of the data and actually suss this out.
This should be something objectively verifiable.
Somebody should make doctorstats.com.
English

@BrentAWilliams2 this finding never made any sense anyway. or isn't it better for a woman to see a woman doctor? what nonsense. a good doctor is a good doctor period.
English

This stupid ass study was pushed by the media and used by morons in my profession to push the idea of “racial concordance” between doctors and patients.
More junk science leading to mistrust of the medical profession and swallowed whole by Woke midwits.

A famous study found that Black babies have higher survival rates if attended by Black than White doctors. But a re-analysis of the data shows the effect disappears after accounting for the fact that low birth weight babies more often see White doctors. [Link below.]

@Tim_Denning this started Ok but why do you have to delight in the suffering of others? this comes across not great Tim. Maybe just stop after the part about picking up your kiddo at school and leave it at that? better vibes.
English

@BridgetPhetasy @AndySwan Yes. I watched it the same way. the whole school was sad about it. strange to think how such an event would be absorbed in today's world
English

@AndySwan I saw this and immediately thought of the challenger exploding.
English

@DrCamiloOrtiz calling his prediction premature is incredible imprecise and simple wrong. he was WRONG! in fact we are looking at a population implosion soon with no massive starvation or calamity every occurring due to population. on the contrary things got better for most of humanity!!!!

@adamtaggart that right there my friend is all that any man could ever want. happy for you!

Graham Stephan explains who should pay the bill on the first date
“A good way to do it is you cover dinner, then suggest something like, ‘There’s a great dessert spot nearby, I’ll get dinner and you grab dessert.’ It doesn’t have to be exactly 50/50, but it shows effort on both sides”
“You could also say, ‘I’ll get the first two rounds of drinks, you get the third.’ It’s just a small way to make it feel balanced”

@olsonplanner to me the muni bond thing is a wash viz a viz a regular bond fund. the tax equiavalent yield seems about the same when I have looked at the numbers. i.e. that tax advantage appears to be baked into the yield. and I'm in OR and there isn't a great muni option for that state
