Our read on the Elon situation is that he feels he was made a fool of. He spent all this time and energy, burnt through nearly all of his social, political, and literal capital, had his companies hurt, had his showrooms fire bombed, took countless death threats, bore the mental responsibility of users of his products being attacked as well — and all this time he was justifying it as for the greater good because all the cuts would have been worth it at the end for what he felt was the greatest cause: saving the country. Then when this bill was pushed, he felt like the rug was pulled from under him. His time at the White House came to an end and what was he left with was a torched reputation and damaged values of his companies. So now he feels snubbed and even though he likely knows he needs to focus on his companies, getting to mars, the AI shift, and growing GDP enough to impact the increased deficit, he’s still pissed. Hence the statement that he wants to start his own third party and he wants to primary everyone who payed lip service to DOGE cuts but is now supporting this bill — basically those who he feels lied to him and wasted his time and resources. Now these actions mean he’s at direct odds with the MAGA crowd, which will piss them off and also piss off the administration. The democrats still don’t like him and won’t forgive him, so this would alienate him from both sides. And if he does go through with launching his America Party, he’s just going to pull votes away from the right, which will work in favor of Democrats, who will still mock him relentlessly while enjoying the chaos and damage he’s doing to the Trump camp. So overall, it’s a complicated situation and it looks from the outside like there’s a lot of emotions and grievances playing out in the arena of the global stage. In principle, what Elon believes in is correct, and his grievance is justified, however the approach to vindicate himself by launching a third party may not be judicious because of the damage that it would do to the right and the benefits that it would give to the left. The Right can’t afford to lose the congress in the midterm elections, which is a strong possibility considering what Elon claims he wants to do.
