HOW TO SPOT A GRIFTER 101: - If the curse word to unique insight ratio is flipped, COOKED - If the pitch begins with them marginalizing you and making you feel bad about yourself, COOKED - If the narrative is that the future is bleak and you’re hopeless without them, COOKED - If they’re being paid by the company that’s going to “save” you, COOKED

@SmithM067 @ByuSome @Bar_tolmi No it's not. It's 88% active after 5yrs. This was from a Seventy on the missionary committee in 2023 from a bishopric training meeting I attended personally.

@ByuSome @Bar_tolmi That 40% start is true after 5 years, I remember learning that while a missionary from a general authority visit. but 6 months is a stretch.

@latterdaylaura It's made up. According to Church HQ, about 88% of returned Elders have an active Temple recommend after 5 years, and 93% of returned Sisters have an active recommend. This was as of September 2023 tho, so it could have changed a bit since then

I don’t really believe it. But even if it was 99%, truth is truth. People crucified the Son of God, you don’t think people could also leave His true church?

@latterdaylaura This is completely fabricated. I was in a bishopric training meeting with a Seventy who was part of the missionary committee. He reported that close to 90% of RMs were active with temple recommends at 5yrs post mission. Slightly higher for females.

1985 was glorious. PC goes vertical. NES launches. Cable TV takes off. Back To The Future, Real Genius, Weird Science, DARYL. Top Gun filming. We Are The World, New Coke, Madonna, Wrestlemania. NSFNet. And constant looming threat of nuclear annihilation for adrenalinemaxxing.

I can't tell you exactly why, but the year 1985 always sounds somewhat science-fictional to me [Management centre of the USSR North-Western Integrated Power Grid in Riga, Latvia, 1985]

@Inaki_Soto1 @ByuSome Technically it's illegal to use it outside your home in WA (at least that was the pitch). Now you can't go anywhere without smelling it. It's the worst.

There is not a single place that is better because they legalized recreational marijuana. Coming from a place that did, it's terrible. You stop taking your kids to the park because people are there smoking pot. You have dread living in a townhouse or apartment because one or more ruin the entire place smoking that crappy stuff.

@Ch_JesusChrist Since I moved her 23yrs ago, the Seattle Temple district has added Anchorage, Spokane, Vancouver BC, Tri-Cities, Moses Lake, Tacoma and now Marysville temples. People used to travel to the Seattle temple for a week and that was their annual visit. Much easier now.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints in Marysville, Washington, learned Sunday night that a new temple will be built in their city. The announcement from the First Presidency was shared by Elder Hugo E. Martinez of the United States West Area Presidency during a devotional in the Marysville Washington Stake. “We are pleased to announce the construction of a temple in Marysville, Washington,” the First Presidency statement says. “The specific location and timing of the construction will be announced later. This is a reason for all of us to rejoice and express gratitude for such a significant blessing — one that will allow more frequent access to the ordinances, covenants and power that can only be found in the house of the Lord.” Learn more on Church Newsroom. newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/new-te…

Daughter at 3:32 AM- just got in a little accident, no other cars, cops said it should be like a couple hundred bucks to repaint a little scratch on the bumper. Dad at 3:35 AM- that’s awful, glad you’re ok and safe. Send a pic so I can see the damage. The damage

@PinehavenGuy @BoiseState4Life Very few places outside of Utah/Idaho need or want more units per building. Our stake has sold off two buildings in the last decade and most buildings have 1 unit in them.

Stop saying sacrament meeting should be shortened. There is no reason it should be condensed. What takes place in sacrament meeting that will never allow it to be shortened: 1. Calling and sustaining members 2. Administration of the sacrament (including breaking of the bread/hymn), which in some wards can take longer than 20 minutes on its own 3. Baby blessings 4. Speakers, often including messages the bishopric (or stake presidency) has felt should be the focus of the meeting. It is the simplest way for leaders to address the needs and concerns of a ward. I probably missed some, but the biggest reason it shouldn’t be shortened in my opinion is that the sacramental ordinance shouldn’t feel rushed. It should have enough time to allow for reverent contemplation and simple administration.

@BoiseState4Life @hiwerth781 This is a big ward issue most of us don't have. My ward has 150 most weeks and we're done with the sacrament in by 20 after leaving 40 minutes to fill. That said, I don't want to shorten it either.

To me it would be challenging to alter it where it wouldn’t negatively impact the flow of the meeting, especially in instances where a visiting authority would typically be given an opportunity to speak. Perhaps the speaking times could be shortened, but it seems like most of the time the speaker portion of the meeting only takes 20-25 minutes as it is. Our ward has 500 people and it usually takes a minimum of 20 minutes to pass the sacrament. Right now it’s: -5 min for hymn and prayer -3-5 min for sustaining, plus baby blessings, etc. -20+ min for sacrament hymn and administration of sacrament -5 min youth speaker -10-12 min adult speaker -3-5 min rest hymn or musical number -10-12 min adult speaker -5 min for hymn and prayer
