You know what is going to be insufferable? @BobbyMacSports has called a goal for a #cbj player during the second intermission, three games straight, and he’s been right all 3 games.

@UnionAndBlue Nah, I’m good with that. PIT plays tomorrow, so if you know the trade is happening, then let the man pack & get ready for his next job. It’s one of the subtle displays of class that gives me confidence in GMDW.

@raghu_venugopal Hey, doc! 1.) thank you for your service to our communities & our country. 2.) I have asthma. When I arrive at an ER, I get immediate attention, until my breathing is stabilized. Then, if I have to wait, I’m good with that, because it means I’m OK & someone else needs help.

ER doc here. Whenever there is a publicized poor outcome in ER, you can bet a minority will say Canada's publicly funded healthcare system is a failure. There are many problems with this nihilistic approach. 👇👇👇 Bad outcomes are real. There are no ER doctors in Canada disputing this fact. ER doctors like me are central to investigating and fixing the factors leading to bad outcomes - and we do it. However, you have to look at the whole picture. The whole picture means the denominator. The problem with naysayers is they have zero appreciation how many patients with chest pain (a salient example) get timely and correct care. The naysayers don't care about the vast majority of cases gone well. Bad outcomes in ER mean we need more investment. We lag behind in hospital bed capacity in Canada. This has massive implications. The solution to this is more investments in hospitals - not less. Naysayers would scoff that why throw more good money at a bad system. Why not be "innovative" and try something "new". In reality, if we had more hospital bed capacity we would have less ER overcapacity and patients with chest pain could be seen in the right place at the right time. The naysayers will then go on and say let's privatize more of our healthcare system. This is the wrong approach. The average Canadian makes $72K before taxes. They don't have money to spend on healthcare (and they're already paying for it through taxes). Profiteers love it when there is a bad outcome in our publicly funded healthcare system as it feeds their narrative and desire to get a cut of the big healthcare budgets. But no where in medical school or residency training are we taught that the wealth of the few improves the health of the many. The other major problem is there are basically zero journalists and reporters in Canada who report in a fair and balanced manner the tremendous good that happens in our healthcare system on a daily basis. Why would they? Mrs. Jones had chest pain, she got timely tests, she had an angiogram the same day showing coronary disease, she got stented, went home and did well. This real type of story doesn't generate outrage, sell papers, get clicks or get people engaged/enraged. That's a problem. I love our serious Canadian reporters but they only report on the few bad outcomes, never the good and so the public generates a pent-up overall negative view of the entire healthcare system - a view that is totally false. Thanks for reading.

Told that #CBJ Kirill Marchenko’s surgery today in Dallas included the insertion of metal plates and screws to stabilize the broken bones. No return timeline offered by #CBJ, but playes/screws could allow for a quicker return (as little as a month) than if his jaw was wired shut.

@PatrickBryce07 @ClarkeBitter @PremierScottMoe Just because Trudeau did a poor job with the post-COVID economy doesn’t mean that anyone who he opposes is somehow “good” and can be believed 100%. This trade war is not about fentanyl. It’s about crisis capitalism.

@ClarkeBitter @PremierScottMoe FFS Stop defending the Canadian Government...THIS IS 100% ON THEM. Before the Turd there was 35M population, NOW...41M, many are cross border drug mules who help kill Americans with Chinese Fentanyl from B.C. 👍Alberta took steps with border Sheriffs & Blackhawk Helicopters.👍

The decision by President Trump to impose tariffs on all Canadian products is disappointing and will damage both our countries' economies, workers and consumers. We agree that we need to have strong secure borders. The US has been clear in this priority. Saskatchewan has been equally clear about efforts to stop the flow of fentanyl and illegal migrants. We have enhanced our provincial border security measures. Saskatchewan is calling on the federal government to take all necessary steps to strengthen border security and have fentanyl removed from our communities in Canada and the USA. I am calling on the federal government to strengthen the Criminal Code of Canada to toughen penalties for drug offences, specifically fentanyl. As I have said, I support very targeted and specific retaliatory measures to initial tariffs. However, this should never be the longer-term answer. Saskatchewan's exports are crucial to supporting food and energy security across North America and around the world. We will also be working to ensure diversification of Saskatchewan markets for our goods. We will continue to work with all Saskatchewan businesses and other governments to find common ground on this important issue to ensure that damaging tariffs are removed as quickly as possible. Make absolutely no mistake, these tariffs will cost American and Canadian families more. That will weaken the highly integrated North American economy which benefits our nations that may not be our allies. Tariffs are harmful to all of us in North America.

August 3rd. 9:34 pm, Shawn texts me. “Hey, I’m in some real trouble.” After a few texts I find out where he is. I quickly call Ian Mendes. Without hesitation Ian and our friend Rich, who works at the Royal Ottawa agree to help find Simmer. When we finally track him down, he’s appreciative that we’re there. It’s emotional. There are tears. While Ian stays with Simmer, Rich and I are on the phone, calling mental health professionals, doing everything we can to get him help. That’s when I look back and see Ian and Simmer and I’m crushed. Ian is holding Shawn’s hand, telling him we will take care of him. This is a picture of what true friendship looks like. Eventually, Ian and Rich take Shawn to the hospital and get him admitted. That night, as I drove home, I was an emotional mess. It was one of the hardest days of my life. What if we hadn’t responded? For the next three days, we didn’t leave his side. Ian stayed with Shawn through the night. Rich came for a few hours. I sat with him during the day. We got him into a treatment program, and things started looking up. Simmer was doing great. We talked or texted every day. Yorkie, Rich, and I visited him and helped to celebrate his birthday. He had an aftercare plan, medication, and support. We hired him full-time on the podcast. We truly believed this was the help he needed. Ian, Rich, and I had a group chat dedicated to helping Shawn, making sure we were always there for him and for each other. But today, I feel like I let a teammate down. People always say, "Make sure you check in." We did. But it wasn’t enough. Shawn, I’m sorry.
