It would make sense if corruption and rule fixing were taking place @fia @F1 but surely that couldn’t be the answer…?

At the Second Reading of the Bill, on 29 November, there will be a vote. We must win this vote in order for the Bill to pass to the next stage. MPs will only attend if they know their constituents feel strongly about the Bill.

The ban on assisted dying is forcing terminally ill people to suffer despite the best care, spend their life savings travelling to Switzerland, or take matters into their own hands at home, with relatives often left traumatised.

Yesterday, @kimleadbeater MP’s Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill had its First Reading in the House of Commons. This is the first step in the parliamentary process. 🧵🧵🧵

How dare you. British slaveowners were compensated to the equivalent of near £20 BILLION in today’s money, drawing a debt that was only paid off, by taxpayers, in 2015. Gladstone’s father received one of the largest individual payouts, equivalent to £80m today. Shall I continue?
Jacob Rees-Mogg@Jacob_Rees_Mogg

They ought to pay us for ending slavery, it is not something any other country had done and we were motivated by Christian charity.

Auschwitz Memorial
Auschwitz Memorial@AuschwitzMuseum·
This is one of the hardest but also one of the most important warnings from the history of Auschwitz coming for us today. Perpetrators were in fact people who accepted and followed an ideology that made them believe that they were better than others, an ideology that rationalized and promoted hatred & evil. This became part of their everyday lives and their environment. They were not monsters. They were people: fathers and mothers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters. They had their family joys and problems, their favorite desserts or songs, hobbies or fears. They were people like us. But they also perpetrated horrible things, monstrous things on behalf of the ideology they believed in. Dehumanization of all "others" was a tool that helped them achieve their goal. The perpetrators thought of themselves as moral people. And this is the scary part of this history. We cannot dehumanize them, as their story and choices are our human warning.

Congratulations and a huge thank you to Clare, for taking on the Manchester Half Marathon in October, finishing (with a grin!) in a great time - and raising valuable funds for Killed Women, to help us with our work. justgiving.com/crowdfunding/c… "My dear niece Ellie was killed by her ex boyfriend five years ago, leaving a huge loss in our family. For those of you that know me, you will be aware that I love running but my average running distance is about 5 km, so to run 21 km for the the first time in my life comes with some personal challenge in mid life."

Women in Afghanistan continue to lead the way in civic resistance. Today in Kabul, a group of women protesters, joined by men, demanded that Taliban atrocities not be normalized and that women be meaningfully included in decision-making forums and key conversations.

Despite Justin Welby opposing assisted dying, there are many people of faith - both clergy and laity - who feel it should be an option and on religious grounds. My letter in Thursday’s The Times tells why:

Do you know what happens after a rapist or paedophile is found guilty in the family court? Nothing. They go home. They go to work. They go about their lives freely. Because it's in family court, it's secret, and it won't show up on DBS checks. telegraph.co.uk/business/2024/…
