Feed at the moment is a delicious combination of A) The world as we know it is ending. Farmings too hard and no energy food or future. & B) The future is amazing. New tech is propelling us all forward, even the farmers. Autonomy, space exploration, and abudnace at hand.

Do you reckon Scott Morrison has been to a petrol station lately? Petrol prices are surging on his watch.

@acespete @Oscarthefarmer I looked that quote up once. It turns out it was the introduction to a speech about farm support programs. Guess what it finished with the government trying to help. 🤯

I will be controversial here and say that subsidising fuel by discounting excise at the moment is exactly the wrong policy. In a market economy, when supply is constrained the only mechanism for rationing demand is price. I hate it as much as anyone, but if the govt cuts excise at the bowser, demand will exceed supply and we will run out of fuel. Second to that, the sellers in a free market will always charge what the market can bear. If that is $3/L, when the excise is cut the margin will lift and we will still be at $3/L. All cutting excise will do is increase already obscene fuel company profits. Motorists will gain nothing, govt will lose revenue, we will certainly run out of fuel, and offshore fuel companies will kill the pig. Denying the first economic principle of the supply-demand-price dynamic is apparently par for the course with socialist ideologues, but has no place in liberal economics. We saw what happened to house prices when Labor stimulated demand in a supply constrained market. Don't do it again with fuel.

Australia has plenty of gas, but most of it is in the Northwest Shelf, isolated from the populated east coast. The West-East Pipeline would unify the national market, connecting cheap WA gas to the expensive eastern states. A 2017 feasibility study estimated construction would take two years and cost $5.8 billion, and reduce east coast gas prices by $3/GJ - a benefit of over $2 billion per year! That’s narrow peacetime benefits only, ignoring the project’s strategic value and national resilience. If coupled with a gas-to-liquids plant in South Australia, it would underpin true liquid fuel security for a nation increasingly aware of its dependence on maritime trade.

He's right you know. This is part of why we are where we are. If we had developed world norm level fuel reserves and a well trusted government, I doubt people would feel the need to hoard fuel to this degree...

I am sure that governments and media that routinely propagated nonsense during Covid that caused schools and playgrounds to close & then buried a Covid Royal Commission can now be relied on to tell the truth about what lies ahead … the Bank of Trust is overdrawn #auspol

@Glenn_SoilAgro @dyerjonathan @Matthill2417 @Mistadamage Entirely innacurate when it comes to economic policies sorry Glenn. During that time ALP moved rightward toward neoliberal constraints, not leftward, while the economic "center" shifted right, largely due to Coalition policy anchoring.

@dyerjonathan If you moved the princeland border to ballan and the south coast border up to Warragul Victoria would still encompass all the areas the govt currently spends all it's money anyway

@hot_rails Priceland would have its own deep water port, gold deposits and exports, much highly productive farmland, an export oriented rail network - needs work, but it's there. GSP per capita off the charts.

Princeland’s eastern border should be the 143rd meridian (Ararat) not the 142nd (Dimboola). Hell, should go for the 144th (east of Ballarat)
