@Anarseldain Legit not to mention she has her own weird neurotic interest of building muscle. She looks like a freak. Of course that would be considered a “normal” interest by her. Normal isn’t what we should strive for.

Childhood is one of the only times in a person’s life when they can freely engage with their interests, and find their passions, their tastes, and become their own individual. It is incredibly, unbelievably evil to take that away, and you will stunt them forever. They would, for the rest of their lives, hate you, and they’d have every right to. They’ll be approval-seekers, compulsive people-pleasers, always afraid to be different, or unique, they’ll be bland, and every social interaction will be underpinned by a need to fit in, to not stand out, and they’ll never understand why, but it would be your fault. They’ll be a perfectly crafted office drone, wasting away under the buzz of fluorescent lights, afraid to even ask if there’s more out there. The perfect standard of “normalcy,” of mediocrity – unexceptional in every way. And it would be YOUR fault. All because, what, you’re afraid you wouldn’t be able to stop them wearing cat ears to school? Parents can’t stop that? I guess they can’t stop their teenaged daughters from dressing like hookers either? Oh yeah, and don’t forget, moms putting their little boys in dresses! Yeah, let’s take more freedom from kids, because mom lets a 7-year-old wear a choker and a tank top? I literally saw that yesterday, but the real issue is parents refusing to say no to silly, meaningless stuff? By the way, the ones wearing cat ears and tails today hate anime, and the people who watch it. If they watch any anime, it’s the blandest, most milquetoast stuff imaginable. They don’t like any of the “weird” stuff. They get on tiktok and complain about it, say anime fans are weird, say that it’s pedophilia to like a 16-year-old anime girl, et cetera. They agree with YOU on this. It’s like not letting kids read Harry Potter because it’s “sorcery,” but a hundred times worse. We’re pushing more restrictions on kids than ever before, and, hint, they’re getting “weirder,” specifically because of it. Let kids be kids, for fuck’s sakes. Just let kids BE.
Shrimp Billionaire@fentanylbrownie

People are having a field day with the “no anime” thing, but I do have to come down on the side of making an effort to ensure your kids aren’t weird. The state of things is dire. They’re wearing cat ears and tails to school. It’s not how it used to be.

@davidpattersonx People will still often travel, though it’s likely that speeds will increase if vehicles so it won’t be too much of an issue. I expect an increase overall but not too much

@WestsideLAGuy Thai is partially true but I do think that regardless of status, highly intelligent men are quite often drawn to computer science and engineering roles out of fascination. AI is possibly the most interesting field out there plenty of autists love it.

If the U.S. loses the AI race to China, it will not be because of our immigration policy. 1) China is now an advanced country. Its best & brightest are not as drawn to making a future in the U.S. vs say 20 years ago. 2) American culture is not well suited for the AI race as it is fundamentally anti-academic competition & intellectual elitism. We do not revere STEM talent. Young talented men flock to fields that will reward them -not just financially- but via status, social prestige, respect. In China the STEM geniuses are demi gods, akin to how we treat pro athletes & top influencers. 3) The latter point was the central theme of Vivek Ramaswamy’s infamous Christmas tweet. Yes he should have been more tactful in how he expressed his view but it was indeed a salient one as it pertains to the current Sputnik moment. 4) The Right mistakenly thinks the solution is just “accept more Americans into STEM Phd programs.” But as I alluded to earlier, our best & the brightest don’t want to do it. This thus requires a fundamental reorientation of American culture, one that our society would reject as we are not a Confucian society.
Bill Ackman@BillAckman

Our immigration policies need to be reformed to allow the best and brightest to be educated in the USA and stay here to create value for our country. As long as their values are aligned with the long-term interests of our country, their visas should be fast tracked. Can someone in immigration help this young woman?

I’m an AI PhD at Oxford wanted to move to the US for years, but it never worked out. Maybe I can share why. To me, it feels like the US is making it harder and harder for Chinese talent to come or stay. First, Trump signed PP10043, which meant I couldn’t go to the US for any graduate school. That’s why I had to turn down my Stanford offer and come to Oxford. Later, I qualified for an EB-1A (the extraordinary ability green card). But because I was born in China, I’m stuck in a country-specific backlog that could take another 4–5 years. Meanwhile, on the other side, I’m getting 3–4 emails from China almost every week. They offer high salaries, free housing, generous research funding, and even offered an astonishing amount of money just for me to come back and have a conversation. I’ve always loved the American spirit. I truly believe my abilities could have a bigger impact there. But honestly, the whole process has been incredibly frustrating. All of this makes me wonder whether I should just give up. Why am I spending so much energy trying to go to a country that doesn’t seem to want me, when another country is doing everything it can to bring me back?

@andtwofortea @spqr_sulla True most men are stupid now and only value a women based on how quickly they can get sex. It’s not long term thinking, it’s simply pleasure seeking. They can find another women who has been with other men who will give it over quicker.

@spqr_sulla How funny - I actually had a number of conventionally attractive small c conservative female friends stay virgins into their mid twenties! A common theme? Men dating them for months and then flipping out and dropping them when they said they were virgins. “Too much pressure.”

Boomer continues working into his 90s. Why? He doesn't need to do entry level jobs suitable for teens. He's just bored. Much of boomer's bad behavior is like this. It's not that they hate the young. They just don't think or care about the 2nd order effects of their actions.
Matt Van Swol@mattvanswol

A 92-year-old North Carolina man got so bored 2 months into retirement that he applied to work at Chick-fil-A... ...his smile, kindness, and passion for Jesus became so contagious that when he got sick and missed 3 days of work, an ENTIRE TOWN began asking where he was. His name is Gilbert Martin. Everybody calls him "Mr. Gil." Mr. Gil is 92 years old, and works at the Chick-fil-A on Oleander Drive in Wilmington, NC. He spent decades working in the natural gas industry and when he retired, he greeted people at Sam's Club for 12 MORE years, until they eliminated his position. Most people would call that a sign to finally rest, but not Mr. Gil! Two months into retirement, he got bored... so he walked into Chick-fil-A and put in an application. He was 86 years old at the time. He's been there ever since. Not one or two shifts a week either. Monday through Friday. He says the full schedule gives him more chances to be there for people who need him. His official job is dining host. Clean tables. Clean floors. But Mr Gil doesn't see it that way... as he describes it, his real job is: "I get a lot of people that are coming in, just been to the doctor, and got bad news... I'm able to be an encourager; the Lord gave me that." A 92-year-old man who could be resting at home... chooses to stand in a dining room five days a week... so strangers on the worst day of their lives don't have to be alone. And Wilmington noticed. When Mr. Gil caught a cold and missed a couple of days, the owner said he was FLOODED with HUNDREDS of customers who were panicked about him. Mr. Gil has zero plans to retire. He says if you ever see him working, come say hi. "I don't know what 92 is supposed to feel like, but I feel great. Serving others has always brought me joy because I believe that a smile and a kind word can make someone's day a little brighter.” We need more of this in the world!!!!

We are entering an era where women dominate the high IQ white collar jobs and men are relegated to service sector, manual labor, and general downward mobility. Considering that most women will not marry a man lower in social status than her, this new development is terrible for fertility and marriage rates. Women also just tend to function differently than men do in the professional sphere, so our institutions will ultimately change in outcomes.
