𝟐𝟓𝐓𝐇 𝐄𝐀𝐂 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐈𝐓 🍃 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐀𝐂 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐲 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 @WilliamsRuto 🔹𝗡𝗼𝗻-𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗳 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 (𝗡𝗧𝗕𝘀) Concerted regional efforts to eliminate non-tariff barriers are yielding results, with reported barriers declining by 56%; from 61 in 2024 to 27 in 2025. 🔹𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Construction of the Mombasa–Tanga–Bagamoyo coastal road has reached 62% completion, with 460 km of the 720 km stretch already operational, opening new economic corridors and reducing cargo transit time by 40%. 🔹𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗼𝗿 The transport corridor has been revitalised through the commissioning of six locally constructed cargo vessels over the past three years, with a combined capacity of 3,500 tonnes, increasing cargo movement across the lake to 890,000 tonnes annually. 🔹𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 – 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗗𝗥𝗖 The African-led process to restore peace and security in Eastern DRC is now under the leadership of the African Union. A Panel of African Facilitators has been appointed to support the process, while the AU Mediator presented a progress report to the 39th AU General Assembly in February 2026. 🔹𝗘𝗔𝗖–𝗘𝗨 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 There is strong consensus among all Partner States to conclude the EAC–EU Economic Partnership Agreement, a key milestone expected to strengthen the region’s export performance and supply capacity. 𝟐𝟓𝐓𝐇 𝐄𝐀𝐂 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐈𝐓 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤: shorturl.at/iQnng 📌 Key Highlights: The Summit: 🔹 Adopted a new financing formula for the Community of 50% (equal Partner State contributions) and 50% (assessed contributions) with effect from 1st July 2026, without fail. 🔹 Decided that members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) serving in the Community shall be paid by their respective National Assemblies, with effect from December 2027, after the end of the tenure of the current Assembly. 🔹 Decided to waive, as a one-off, 50% of all arrears due from all Partner States, due to the prevailing circumstances in the Partner States, on condition that the remaining 50% is paid within two years from 7th March 2026. 🔹 Decided that the quorum for meetings of all organs and institutions of the Community shall be two-thirds of all Partner States.
