Granting that assumption, the issue with a nuclear-armed Iran is that it would upset the regional balance of power and impose unfavorable settlements on its neighbors. Note this isn't a hypothetical because they were already able to impose their will on Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen and they were able to do so without nukes. You can make the argument that the Middle East is irrelevant but I think gas/oil-starved Asians and Europeans would disagree.

Unlike Iraq where there was a great deal of dispute about whether there even was a WMD program: nobody seems to contest the fact that Iran was building a bomb. So, what is America supposed to do in that case (especially if max pressure is not sufficiently deterring them)?

As it turns out, Mathews had been snitched on by one of his compadres, Tom Martinez (lol lmao even), who became an informant after being arrested for passing counterfeit bills.
