I can promise this: The Senate will not vote to leave NATO and abandon our allies just because Trump is upset they wouldn’t go along with his reckless war of choice.   Thank you to @SecRubio for sponsoring the bill in 2023 requiring a two thirds vote of the Senate to make sure clueless presidents couldn’t act on a whim.
Senator Marco Rubio: Archived@SenMarcoRubio

No U.S. President should be able to withdraw from NATO without Senate approval. Thankful my colleagues in Congress passed this bipartisan measure.

@andrewjb_ Where are you sourcing cost of EIS? It only raised ~£1.5bn last year. Certainly didn’t pay out £1bn in tax relief. But EIS businesses contribute approx £960m in combined taxes each year

our institutions & incentives aren't solving our scale or sovereignty problems: 1️⃣ BBB keeps growing (good!), but it's avoided by best funds+startups 2️⃣ govts keep pledging allegiance & expanding EIS/VCTs, so we now spend ~£1bn on tax arbitrage & zombie cos., not genuine winners

you've heard about @turinginst (~£30m/yr), but do you know the issues with the @BritishBBank (£25b), the closest thing we have to a sovereign wealth fund? or how VC incentives costing £1b a year don't help scale or sovereignty? to fix this chart, we need to fix *them*:

@dc_lawrence @andrewjb_ @BritishProgress EIS does work - it sets healthy market conditions without the government choosing which shots to take. Good policy. Treasury nets ~£960m in combined taxes from EIS companies annually - much more than they pay out in tax relief. Our problem is growth capital, not seed (SEIS/EIS)

I am a national wealth fund sceptic, but @andrewjb_ has convinced me that if we're going to have a British Business Bank, we should make it work. And we should get rid of tax incentives like EIS/VCT, which generate little return for the taxpayer. New from @BritishProgress

The UK doesn’t create anything. No one wakes up in Shanghai, Lagos, or Dubai thinking: “I need something from Britain.” Once, this country forged ships, steel, locomotives. Now we export Netflix actors and HR departments. Finance isn’t real, GDP is smoke. It’s just numbers about numbers bankers trading made up money for imaginary value. We don’t build, don’t innovate. We don’t produce anything the world actually wants or needs. Meanwhile, the average Brit is told they’re “productive” because they spent 9 hours on a Zoom call about inclusive language while sipping a £4.80 oat milk flat white. Wake up. Productivity is creation. If you aren’t building, planting, protecting, or selling you’re just noise.

@matt_vanswol It was normalised when US persuaded Ukraine to give up 3rd largest stockpile of nuclear weapons in return for protection. It was also normalised when US formed NATO in order to lead security of West. It was by design, not accident.

I personally find it baffling that some random dude in Ukraine feels it’s appropriate to make a video blaming Donald Trump and JD Vance for failing to protect him. When did we normalize that the US taxpayer was funding the entire world’s defense? This dude doesn’t pay taxes here for those weapons. He has absolutely no right whatsoever to blame or criticize anyone in America for the truly unfortunate failure of his own government to defend his country and people. Why is this in any way controversial?

@BasedMikeLee US hasn’t. A v quick bit of research shows you have given about €105bn. European countries about €115bn. And European countries buy their equipment through US.

A lot of European leaders have come out in the past three hours to express their "unwavering support" for Zelenskyy. Great. Maybe they'll be happy to pay the cost of this war for once. Money and weapons will win more wars than platitudes.

@charliekirk11 Often lost in the malaise of American politics is that Europe has put up more money for this war than the US.

I’m sickened by that degrading spectacle. And to think the bust of Winston Churchill was in the same room as it unfolded. He would be turning in his grave if he saw that happen. Ukraine’s people, led by President Zelenskyy, have fought bravely to hold off Putin over the last three years with US and European support. Zelenskyy has shown sincere gratitude for the support offered by his partners. We salute him and the courageous Ukrainians as they fight for freedom against Russian imperialism. Countries can and do disagree, but the West must show a united front to our enemies.

@DavidSacks This analysis forgets the position that Russia too finds itself in. They cannot continue indefinitely either. In fact, their economy is in a desperate position. So, find a compromise. But don’t give away everything - being current battle lines - as your first move.

One of the most basic requirements for any military conflict is to have a clear attainable objective. What is our clear attainable objective in Ukraine? At the beginning of the war, we claimed to have one: the goal was to push Russia out of Ukrainian territory. But the Summer Counteroffensive of 2023 proved that objective was unattainable. It cost $100 billion and the Ukrainians actually lost ground. Since then, the Ukrainians have been losing even more territory and suffering even greater casualties — but without there even being a plausible objective. The only goal now, it appears, is for the advocates of this war, who rejected negotiations over and over again, to avoid admitting they were wrong. But that is not worth a single additional American dollar and certainly not a single additional Ukrainian life.
Donald Trump Jr.@DonaldJTrumpJr

Read the below to understand the actual landscape in Ukraine. It’s all a lie. The reality is they’ve been losing for a very long time, but have artificially created the perception that they are winning so that any deal that stops the needless death will look like a “bad deal” because none of it is based on truth only a flawed perception of what’s actually going on created by biased players. Remember, there’s no money in peace!
