St George, the great Martyr for Christ, was born around the year 260 AD. As a Roman commander of a thousand troops, he was highly honored for his courage and success in battle against the enemies of Rome. When he learned that the Roman Emperor Diocletian was preparing a persecution of the Christians, George presented himself publicly before the Emperor and denounced him. When threats and promises could not move him from his steadfast confession of Christ, George was put to unheard-of tortures, which he endured with great bravery, overcoming them by his faith and love of Christ. By the wondrous signs that took place in his contest, he guided many to knowledge of the Truth, including leading the Empress Alexandra, wife of Diocletian, to herself confess Christ and follow George to martyrdom at the hands of her own husband. I have always maintained that I would support and sign a version of RFRA which mirrors the language and protections provided by federal law since 1993. My commitment to that promise and to the deeply held beliefs of Georgians of faith remains unwavering. States that have legalized sports betting are seeing 16, 17, 18, and 19-year-olds coming in with severe gambling addictions! In fact, 60% of all victims never gambled before their state legalized sports betting. Why would we ever recruit people into this?
