@LisaDNews If not complete, the GOP silence was nonetheless monumental and terrifying.

When I miss something, I own up to it. As you who folo me know. I don't want you to miss something b/c I did. @RapidResponse47 posted these examples I missed of GOP support of Trump and the cease fire last night. (Sincere props on a good visual here.) But, a note. A number of these -- six of 16 -- went up *after* I posted about the lack of GOP response on the ceasefire. That leaves 10 examples of Republicans posting about the ceasefire previously. That is not silence and I'll take it on the chin for missing them. But. There are 270 Republicans in Congress. And we have yet to hear direct thoughts from @SpeakerJohnson and @LeaderJohnThune. (Johnson RT'd a @RapidResponse47 post.) Is this a fact that likely changes the direction of world policy or US politics? No. But it is unusual for a president/nation at war? Yes. x.com/RapidResponse4…

@TheStudyofWar So, after their air defenses are supposedly gone, Iranian action results in damage or loss to a total of 6 aircraft -- two Blackhawks, one f-15, one A 10, two C130s and that's not a win?

MORE: The Iranian regime media is falsely characterizing the shootdown of the F-15E and subsequent downing of an A-10 attack aircraft during rescue operations as a US defeat. US forces successfully established a makeshift airstrip very close to a major Iranian city, successfully extracted all of its personnel, and the combined force has continued to strike targets in Iran.

NEW: US President Donald Trump appears to have extended the deadline for Iran to stop attacking shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to 8:00 PM ET on April 7 amid discussions with Iranian officials. Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said on April 5 that Iran would continue attacking shipping through the Strait, however. More Key Takeaways: US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that US forces on April 4 completed the rescue of both F-15E crewmembers after Iran shot down their aircraft on April 2 during a combat mission. US forces successfully established a makeshift airstrip very close to a major Iranian city, successfully extracted all of its personnel during the rescue operation, and the combined force has continued to strike targets in Iran. The combined force has continued to strike operational components of the program even as it targets production facilities for engines, guidance systems, and other components and research and development facilities, including a missile launcher reportedly for a Haj Qassem missile, which has a maximum range of 1,400 km. The IDF is continuing to target Iranian tunnel entrances to prevent Iranian forces from using tunnels to conceal missile sites. Iran has slightly altered its strike packages targeting Gulf states to include more cruise missiles, but it is unclear whether this represents experimentation with new tactics, an effort to manage the remaining missile reserves, or something else. Hezbollah published footage on April 4 and 5 that Hezbollah claimed shows first-person view (FPV) drone attacks conducted on March 25 against an Israeli vehicle and two Israeli Merkava tanks in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah claimed to have launched anti-ship cruise missiles at an Israeli warship located 68 nautical miles off the coast of Lebanon on April 5 for the first time since the start of the war. The IDF estimated that Hezbollah can maintain a fire rate of 200 rockets and drone launches per day at Israel for an additional five months. Hezbollah rocket and drone attacks do not appear to be achieving the desired effect of altering Israel’s decision-making in conducting airstrikes against Iran, however. Iranian-backed Iraqi militias are attempting to blame Kuwait for attacks on Iraqi oil infrastructure, likely to obfuscate responsibility for these attacks to a domestic Iraqi audience. (1/2)

@JamesMelville Maybe Hegseth should had sent advisors to show the Iranian military how to use their budget for fruit basket stands and shellfish instead of weapons, and we could have prevented this war.

Pete Hegseth, said with no irony whatsoever…. “The problem with Iran is it spends money on weapons and missiles instead of their people.” A bit rich coming from someone who announced that the U.S. government wants $200 billion for the war in Iran.

@Tendar For things to go as planned, there would have to have been a plan, which is contrary to Trump's nature. He doesn't plan. Doesn't have the bandwidth.

Throwing Israel under the bus or claiming to „know nothing“ while hurling a threat around which could sent energy prices into the stratosphere does not really built up confidence that things are going as planned.

@TheStudyofWar This is like optimistically commenting on Napoleon's invasion of Russia, as the French steadily destroyed the Russian army in their way. Similarly, the US is on the road to nowhere, without an achievable military goal in sight.

NEW | Special Report: The war in Iran is currently in a phase in which the military trajectory is relatively positive: the United States is steadily destroying Iran’s ability to use its most essential tool in the war — drone and missile attacks — which in turn underpin the entire Iranian strategy. Iran has still done some damage to US forces, and it is still firing drones and missiles, though the overall attack rate is slowly decreasing. These attacks still pale in comparison to the major attacks Iran sought to conduct in an existential war and have caused neither operationally significant damage nor widespread casualties. The US-Israeli combined force will need time to achieve its military objectives and prevent Iran from inflicting further political and economic pain upon the United States and its allies in the region, but the campaign remains incomplete, and it is too soon to forecast its outcome. Declaring it an operational failure is unquestionably premature.

UPDATE: i just shared this note with my colleagues: "To my incredible colleagues at CBS: I want to personally let you know that my work will soon no longer appear on CBS News. This is my decision, and I appreciate the bosses at CBS for understanding it. I will always value the opportunity I had to work alongside the talented and committed professionals here. I'm proud to have had the words 'CBS correspondent' next to my name - always will be. For the next phase of my career, I look forward to some independence and finding new spaces to share my work in line with my personal goals. I thank you all. The work will not stop, and I'll always be a call away"

@SenBillFerg It's a start, but the idea that "Marylanders can be confident that utility spending is truly rooted in customer benefit and grid reliability," as a result is laughable. BGE has been ripping off consumers for decades, and you've done nothing to stop it.

BGE’s Port Covington project demands increased oversight to determine if it is truly needed for reliability. Unfortunately, it is one of many ‘supplemental projects’ Maryland utilities are advancing that exploit federal loopholes to get a higher rate of return and avoid local approval. At my request, the Senate Committee on Education, Energy, and the Environment will be holding an oversight hearing with the transmission-owning utilities in Maryland to get a full account of precisely how many ‘supplemental projects’ are out there and the corresponding cost to our ratepayers. The Senate will also be introducing legislation in the coming days to close this loophole at the State level so Marylanders can be confident that utility spending is truly rooted in customer benefit and grid reliability. thebanner.com/economy/bge-ba…

One also wonders how much talent OpenAI might lose from all of this and if talent is underrated relative to capital. Anthropic had already been catching up valuation wise and Claude was increasingly considered the #1 LLM by influential users.

@igorsushko None of it will go to U.S. consumers. Businesses that paid tariffs and middlemen who are paying 20-30% on the dollar to buy the tariff obligations will get the refunds.

Drudge is usually pretty good with facts but dropped the ball on this one. Any refunds of the $175 billion collected in tariffs will go to US consumers and businesses who purchased the goods abroad - they're the ones who paid the tariffs, not other "nations."
