"Last week, this column claimed that the Iranian conflict would draw to a relatively rapid close. This ran counter to the pervasive consensus view that it would be an elongated affair. Our consistent perspective has been that US President Donald Trump is highly motivated to execute his ambitious mission quickly and efficiently, and will want to avoid like the plague the quagmires associated with Afghanistan and Iraq." Going well...

The Iranian regime has “closed” the Strait of Hormuz in the same fashion the US, Saudi, China, UK, Qatar, or any number of nations could “close” it. The difference? We’re not evil terrorist bastards who attack international shipping and intentionally attack civilian only targets like the IRGC does. Needs to be dealt with the same way the world dealt with the Barbary States. Crush the IRGC.

I think we’re used to getting everything we want. But that’s not how the real world works. The Iranians have closed the Strait of Hormuz and can now use the world economy as leverage. I don’t think we understand the position we’re in. Israel has put us in an untenable place.

@OzraeliAvi You calling for the assassination of Iran's negotiating team? Your Israeli boyfriends may well oblige; further confirm its reputation as a rogue state.

Douglas Murray got owned by Paul Rieckhoff so badly during this segment. Murray: International alliances don't bet on it. Rieckhoff: So we should shit on our allies and pull out of NATO? If you go into a bar fight, you need every friend you can have. He's throwing away the most valuable friends, including the Ukrainians. The whole world is pissed off at us.

@AvidCommentator I've been to the Southern coast of Iran. The weather alone makes an invasion untenable. The locals do nothing during the day outside.

As insane as it sounds now, a scenario exists where Australia, Canada & Europe all get roped into a ground war in Iran Not because its a good idea, it isnt But because eventually that may be the more desirable choice vs a global recession and watching millions starve to death.

@Eldjb1 @yklnss @MrDamianKing taxed by government does not mean massive mark up in bars and restaurants...🤦‍♂️ many people including tourists drink wine here wine with a meal anywhere is a luxury, as most meals come without wine. Wine is not cheap cheap, but not unaffordable either as others commented from $9

Moving to Thailand is a cliché. But it’s cliché for a reason. It’s a great place to live. But if you want to enjoy a decent quality of life, it’s nowhere near as cheap as people think. You will grow sick and tired of beer, Chang, and 50 bhat street food.

@ironshirtz @yklnss @MrDamianKing It means a massive mark-up in bars and restaurants to the point that tourists won't by it. So having wine with dinner is a luxury.

@Eldjb1 @yklnss @MrDamianKing Plenty of wine in SEA Wine was considered a luxury import (high %) but import tax was removed in 2024 there are still a good few other taxes not sure how this is reflected in retail as I don't drink

I'll never understand how so few journalists have a respect for the craft. Imagine getting into journalism to lie.

@Glinner This is the exact problem. We can’t believe anything in the news anymore. It’s very destabilising

@mattsobalvarro I respect your opinion. People are entitled to criticize Israel. I do. Targeting the Jewish people however is something else entirely.

Israel retaliates against terror and is condemned. Iran targets civilians and gets a pass. That’s not balance. That’s bias.

Again, I return to my earlier point - these people are insane. Throughout history, they exist. Whether it's the Colosseum, witches being burned, public executions or show trials. These lumpen, gibbering simpletons will always walk among us.

@OdohertyI64991 So you deny abusing children but not being an alcoholic? 🇮🇱 is the land of Paedophiles and seeing as you source your own cocaine and booze in 🇮🇪 it's clear the price of your puff pieces ,like all foreign hasbara merchants that accept paid trips to 🇮🇱, is little kids

75% of Democrat voters apparently believe that there was a genocide in Gaza. But there wasn’t a genocide in Gaza. So you have a large segment of the population believing an insane conspiracy theory. What happens when a society completely disconnects itself from reality?

IF the strait of Hormuz opens and goes back to usual traffic, that will be around an average of 135 ships per day. 135 ships x 14 days= 1890 ships will pass through the strait of Hormuz the next 14 days. If Iran charges $2 million, and they split it with Oman, that is 1.89 billion dollars that Iran will make in the next 14 days. IF it stays open permanently and Iran is able to charge the $2m (and keep the 1m), that is almost $50 billion dollars per year for Iran that they will make yearly due to this war. Plenty of money to spend on the ballistic missile program! (And reconstruction obviously)
