🚲 Today we held a groundbreaking ceremony to officially commence the construction of the new cycle hub at Richmond station.
The multi-storey facility, delivered in partnership with @LBRUT, will accommodate 700 bikes and make sustainable onward travel easier and more secure.

A big well done to @SW_Help for all their dedicated hard work (and their contractors) in restoring the canopy at #RichmondStation to its former art deco glory. It was a pleasure to be part of the journey and we next look forward to the booking hall transformation. @BOLarchitect

@RailwayHeritage @SW_Help @BOLarchitect Well done for this wonderful project recognising how important our everyday heritage is to us all! (Hard to imagine how anyone could cover it all up in the first place 🤦♀️)

@LNER I’ve just got off the 15.47 Doncaster to london King’s Cross and left a Lidl shopping bag with a small painting ( of boats and docks) inside wrapped in brown paper. Could you help me find it please??🙏

🧵With targets to build 1.5m new homes @createstreets today call for a new approach to planning new town extensions
For too long we've defaulted to concreting over the countryside with sprawling housing estates driven by prediction-led transport planning

@AlexanderEhmann @AbundanceLondon @LBRUT Also, please do read @createstreets report, Greening Up, on how to re-green our streets (and certainly avoid de-greening them...) Described as "essential reading" and "inspiring" I invite LBRUT to have a read of it -hard copy in post for you.

@AlexanderEhmann @AbundanceLondon @LBRUT Have a look at this video which explains some of the wider issues and the unintended consequences of enabling of turning private front gardens into private car parking (and removing community parking)

We have updated garden parking rules to make it easier for property owners to secure a dropped kerb and support residents choosing electric vehicles.
Find out more about the change from Cllr @AlexanderEhmann ⬇️

@OMGJonParker @LidlGB The more people cycling and walking to Lidl and along Richmond road the better the whole place becomes. Could we have some shade from a tree or two in front of Lidl please? And a bench…?
English

@LidlGB Great that your East Twickenham shop is so popular with cyclists, but the cycle parking is full. Can we have more?

English

@shepherdmg @boys_nicholas Completely agree. When I’m a driver I can get irate with cyclists (for popping out of nowhere) and when I’m a cyclist I can get irate with drivers (for not paying attention and taking up too much space) It’s not helpful to be labelled as one vs the other. We are “one”
English

@boys_nicholas Shouldn't that really read, "Bicycles outnumber cars on the road"? It's too binary and divisive to divide society into cyclists or motorists. I have a car, two bikes and I walk to work, I wouldn't want to have to pick one identity based on transport.

@AlexanderEhmann @peterebuckwell Great! Is it going to be used for anything? Plenty of great examples out there… mini library, “sit stop” coffee stop, joke box
English

Hi @peterebuckwell. Realise you are ‘retired’ from political service, but wanted to let you & many other interested Richmond residents know that after we’d found an appropriate subcontractor - we were able to refurbish the St Matthias telephone box - & it is looking glorious!

English

@shepherdmg @LBRUT @createstreets @RobertKwolek Genius idea Mark! Keep me posted…presume they are owned by the council? Could also be used as community spaces but certainly a cafe would be valuable in that spot
English

This pavillion on the Richmond waterfront has been locked up for about a decade, @LBRUT, how about adding shopfronts and letting the spaces out as pop-ups? They'd be as popular as the boathouses further down the river.

English

@shepherdmg Ah ha, thank you. That figures… cheaper and just plain simpler to leave them to dilapidate slowly. Oh for the old ones that don’t grow old!
English

@EleanorBroad Eleanor, I've just seen this, the last 2 public phones being removed in New York. It give a few clues as to the hassle of pulling them out; permission to close the road, flat bed truck with crane, making good etc. I'm guessing it would have cost too much.

English

@shepherdmg We’ll have to go check them out…the old ones are always worth keeping and been thinking they’d be good for the wonderful “sit stop” initiative…
English

@EleanorBroad Could be that they actually get used now and again. But they are grim specimens.
English

@cpmcgarrigle Sounds like a perfect job for you ( always ahead of the deadline) Chris! Congrats!

Just off the phone with the force of nature that is @FrootkoTash, whose Rainbow Streets are transforming the neighbourhoods of Gloucester.
Here's the same street in 2008 and radically reimagined in 2021 with some low-cost tactical urbanism.
Next stop, 21st Century Streets?
