Understanding Market Socialism 101... My experience is that anti-socialists are stuck in the 1970s: arguing against rationing bread & nationalisation. None of this is proposed, but the caricature is far easier than engaging with contemporary debates over ownership.

It never made sense, given libertarianism originated from the left. State capitalism versus market socialism gives the game away...

You know what’s right wing? Letting people live the way they want. Look up where the term, left wing & right wing comes from. It’s from economics. The Nazis were only just right of widespread socialism. (Only because they strong-armed the corporations instead of making them an official part of the state). Right wing= economic libertarian. A value most conservatives agree with! Left wing= state control over economies. The EXACT thing Luffy fights against.

Socialism & Competitiveness are mutually incompatible, meaning the higher the Social Safetynet & Social Transfers, the lower the Productivity. Draghi has warned the EU about its lack of Competitiveness. It will ONLY improve if generous Socialism is substantially wound back.

Do not waste my time by making objectively false claims like "social liberalism isn't a political ideology" The belief in individual liberty (not mutually exclusive to liberalism btw) is inherently ideological. However, that does a disservice to what social liberalism actually is. Social liberalism is the belief in upholding individual liberties and promoting social justice through government intervention to reduce inequalities, protect civil rights, and provide public services like education and healthcare, while still supporting a market economy and representative democracy.

@EerykMcRae @dannymouw1 If someone has the papers they are a kiwi. Hell; some people are in the process to become permanent residents or citizens & are far more kiwi than yourself. Giving everyone a go being a core part of kiwi mentality and tradition. Racism is a choice; say no to it.

@4pfSunshine It's unfair to put the two together, socialism is just jealousy clothed as compassion. Nietzsche would however argue, that fundamentally they are the same. They attract the poor, the impotent and the feeble who are resentful towards the noble and the well off.

@eshaLegal Well, I keep hearing arguments that real Socialist Communism has never been tried? But at the same time, you only have to look at the outcome of the attempts to that if the goal was to break societies, people, and their economies--it is a roaring success.

When a large majority of graduates have a better opinion of socialism than capitalism, I think whether their professors identified as Marxist is missing the point. It's obviously leftist economics and history they were taught. Is that strictly "Marxism"? Choose your Scotsman.

This conversation is extremely annoying because I am not remotely invested in denying that academia is a left political monoculture and that this has caused problems, but words mean things and there just are not a bunch of Marxists or economic radicals running around the faculty.
