@Dr_Anxie @TinoChinyoka @nickmangwana Australia would kill them on the spot! Keeping them alive is a risk to our local poultry farmers. It’s cheaper to hatch new chicks from egg sources that you trust than taking a risk of raising diseased animals. I don’t agree with burning them though- there are kinder ways.

@TinoChinyoka @nickmangwana Exactly....Animals have pain receptors just like people. That is not the way poultry veterinarians put down birds. They could have been quarantined and reared under supervision of proper poultry veterinarians then the meat donated later.

@Dr_Anxie @TinoChinyoka @nickmangwana Animal welfare is the issue here.Quarantine,donating is out ,disease risk is high with no knowledge of origin and health status of farm of origin,biosecurity measures etc.We don't just depend on end product checks for chicks.Think of the impact on whole poultry industry.

@mapipimakuru @nickmangwana Its not about the duty but possible risk of introducing disease by bringing in un inspected and uncertified chicks.It can cost the whole poultry industry.Immediate disposal was the best ,but done humanely by recommended methods such as gassing then burning.
