Today, we're proud to announce a new era for emergency management in New York City. Mayor Zohran Mamdani has appointed Christina Farrell as Commissioner of NYCEM—a leader whose experience and vision match this moment. For more than three decades, Commissioner Farrell has been at the center of New York City's most critical moments. Commissioner Farrell built NYCEM's external affairs and community engagement work from the ground up—forging partnerships with elected officials, community-based organizations, private sector partners, and neighborhood leaders in every corner of every borough. She grew CERT and Ready New York into programs that put preparedness directly in the hands of the people who need it most. Her record reflects what effective emergency management demands: operational excellence and deep community trust. Plans and logistics that work. Relationships and communication that hold when it matters most. Under Mayor Mamdani's leadership, we're ready to build on this foundation—strengthening preparedness, deepening community partnerships, and delivering for 8.5 million New Yorkers. That's the work ahead. That's the city we're building together. Commissioner Farrell, congratulations. New York City is ready. Let's get to work.

While the stakes were higher here, many yrs in gov’t have taught me this is the (unrecognized) norm in a million ways. Here’s to all the gov’t “bureaucrats” who wake up every day and do their jobs. Proud to know you. @NYCSchools @usedgov @Education_44

3/ That’s amazing. Again, a system worked—a government system. All those people just ordinary frontline workers in anonymous, sometimes invisible jobs. Maritime radio operators. Police/fire dispatchers. Bridge police & state police. All working 11p to 7a o’night shift. —>

We secured a $77 million federal @epa grant that’ll QUADRUPLE our electric school bus fleet. We’ll have a total of 231 electric buses to get our kids to and from school AND advance our progress towards major climate goals. 🔋 cbsnews.com/newyork/news/f…
