I’ve been @nycemergencymgt Commissioner for a month. In that time NYC saw a blizzard, hosted Big City Emergency Managers, held winter weather hotwashes & prepared for flooding, while #Summer2026 events loom large. Today I am official - I celebrated my new job with my EM squad!

Rain and thunderstorms are expected to impact New York City on Monday as a strong cold front moves through the region. Rain may begin as early as Sunday evening around 7 PM and continue overnight into early Monday morning. Periods of moderate rain are likely through the morning commute. Conditions become more active Monday afternoon as the front approaches. Scattered thunderstorms are possible during the day, with the greatest chance for stronger storms Monday evening. The highest risk period appears to be between about 5 PM and 10 PM Monday. During this time, heavier downpours, gusty winds, and thunderstorms are possible as the cold front moves through the area. Rainfall totals are expected to average around 1 to 1.2 inches across the city, with locally higher totals up to around 1.5 inches where thunderstorms develop. Most rainfall rates will stay under a quarter inch per hour, but heavier showers could briefly produce rates close to 1 inch per hour. Localized flooding is possible, especially in low lying areas, underpasses, and locations with poor drainage. Ponding on roadways may develop during heavier downpours. South to southeast winds will increase during the day Monday and may gust up to around 50 mph during the evening as the front passes. Monday temperatures will reach the low 60s before cooler air moves in behind the front late Monday night. Rain and storms gradually taper overnight Monday into early Tuesday morning. Be Ready for Thunderstorms & Rainfall: nyc.gov/beready New Yorkers should allow extra travel time during periods of heavy rain, especially during the Monday evening commute. Avoid driving through flooded streets. Even shallow water can stall vehicles. Secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture or trash bins before winds increase. If thunder is heard, move indoors and stay away from open areas. Clear debris from nearby storm drains if it is safe to do so to help reduce street flooding. NYC Emergency Management joins @NYPDnews and @FDNY in mourning Police Officer and New York Army National Guard Major Sorffly Davius, who died after a medical episode while deployed to Camp Buehring, Kuwait. A former FDNY EMS member, Officer Davius joined the NYPD in 2014 and served at the 79th Precinct in Bedford-Stuyvesant for 12 years. He also served in the 42nd Infantry Division of the New York Army National Guard, rising to the rank of Major. Before his deployment, he served on Joint Task Force Empire Shield, protecting the state's most critical locations. He spent his career responding to emergencies and caring for New Yorkers in their most difficult moments — in every uniform he wore. New York City feels this loss. We keep his family in our thoughts and prayers, today and always.

Winter Weather Carbon Monoxide Safety
🚒 You can't see it. You can't smell it. It can kill you.

KNOW THE RISKS ❄️
As temps drop, CO danger rises.
🔴 NEVER run generators, grills, or camp stoves indoors or in garages 🔴 NEVER use your oven or stovetop to heat your home 🔴 NEVER warm up your car in an attached garage — even with the door open ⚠️ After storms, check that snow and slush haven't blocked your tailpipe or exhaust vents ✅ Test CO detectors — install one on every floor, replace batteries now

KNOW THE SYMPTOMS 🤒CO poisoning can feel like the flu — without the fever:
😵 Headache 😵 Dizziness 😵 Nausea 😵 Confusion
If multiple people in your home feel sick at once — get outside immediately and call 911.

IF YOUR CO ALARM SOUNDS 🚨
1️⃣ Close the door to the affected room & leave your apartment
2️⃣ Make sure EVERYONE leaves with you
3️⃣ Take your keys
4️⃣ Close — but do NOT lock — your apartment door
5️⃣ Knock on doors along your floor to alert neighbors
6️⃣ Use the nearest stairwell to exit
7️⃣ DO NOT USE THE ELEVATOR
8️⃣ Call 911 from a safe location — don't assume it's been reported
9️⃣ Meet your household at a predetermined spot outside — notify firefighters if anyone is unaccounted for

STAY SAFE, NEW YORK 🗽
Plan your exit before you need it. Talk to your household tonight.
