No single agency responds to a major emergency alone — and in a city of 8.5 million people, that coordination has to be seamless. That's the whole idea behind NYCEM's full scale exercise, Operation Iron Corridor. This nighttime training exercise in Queens brought together NYC Emergency Management, FDNY, NYPD, OTI, and Amtrak to work through all aspects of an emergency: coordinating operations, dividing responsibilities, and building the kind of shared instincts that can only come from actually doing it together. New Yorkers deserve an emergency response system that functions as one. Exercises like Operation Iron Corridor are how we make that happen. When it's real, this is what we'll draw on to keep New Yorkers safe.

NYC Emergency Management joins @NYPDnews and @FDNY in mourning Police Officer and New York Army National Guard Major Sorffly Davius, who died after a medical episode while deployed to Camp Buehring, Kuwait. A former FDNY EMS member, Officer Davius joined the NYPD in 2014 and served at the 79th Precinct in Bedford-Stuyvesant for 12 years. He also served in the 42nd Infantry Division of the New York Army National Guard, rising to the rank of Major. Before his deployment, he served on Joint Task Force Empire Shield, protecting the state's most critical locations. He spent his career responding to emergencies and caring for New Yorkers in their most difficult moments — in every uniform he wore. New York City feels this loss. We keep his family in our thoughts and prayers, today and always.
