As of Saturday, 5/16, Long Island Rail Road service is suspended. To accommodate passengers, the MTA will provide limited shuttle bus service on weekdays for essential workers and those who cannot telecommute. Accessible travel options will be available at LIRR Queens stations. Customer Ambassadors will be assigned to each location to assist ADA customers.   Third rail power will remain live at all times. Please do not enter LIRR tracks or the right-of-way at any time. Non-passenger patrol trains will continue to operate throughout the LIRR system. Motorists and pedestrians must continue to stop at grade crossings when gates are lowered and obey crossing warnings. Crossing gates will remain active. Trains can come from any direction at any time.   For more information, shuttle bus locations and list of travel alternatives, visit: on.nyc.gov/4eHPWJ9

Beginning today, new Legionella testing regulations are in effect citywide. The new rules require building owners to test cooling towers for the bacteria every 31 days, up from every 90 days, and more frequently than anywhere else in the U.S. Learn more: on.nyc.gov/4nq5sM4

Always an inspiring event, but this school, its students, teachers and administrators are truly special. I bet some of these 4th graders are future emergency managers! 👏👏👏

🏆 Congratulations to P.S. 60 Alice Austen School in Staten Island, NYCEM's 2026 Ready School of the Year!

For 17 years, we've partnered with @NYCSchools to recognize a school that goes above and beyond in teaching emergency preparedness. This year, that honor goes to P.S. 60 in Bulls Head, Staten Island, led by Principal Donna Bonanno and an extraordinary 4th grade class.

Students brought their learning to life through a Weather Share Fair, presenting natural disasters through posters, skits, PowerPoints, and original songs. 🎤🌪️

They went a step further by inviting a neighboring school in a flood zone to attend and donated decorated Go Bags to every visiting student, making sure preparedness reached the kids most likely to need it. 🎒

As we continue highlighting 30 years of NYC Emergency Management, we look at how the agency helped shape the years 2006 to 2010. From opening our Brooklyn headquarters to launching Notify NYC, to responding to the Great Blizzard of 2010, these years marked a period of growth, innovation, and resilience.   Through it all, we strengthened our commitment to keeping New Yorkers informed, prepared, and safe.   #ThirtyYears #NYCEM
