@lilverrby @Dexerto There is something for everyone, I guess. Hell, I'm a straight guy and I regularly watch YouTube videos of this pretty chick who tries on various types of hosiery. 😂

@markvalorian In the NFL, if there is an offensive hold at the one yard line which allows a running back to break free and run 99 yards , breaking 8 tackles in the process, and scoring a touchdown, the entire play is negated by the hold at the one yard line.

The VAR system is logically flawed; it dramatically overvalues outlandishly precise technical correctness and undervalues the overall scope of surrounding organic gameplay. Let’s take the Egypt goal today as an example: That goal was the result of a complex series of individual wins by Egypt; in order to *earn* it, they had to put a whole sequence of dribbles, runs, passes, and of course the eventual shot together in a way that got past Argentina to score the goal. It was not a free shot on an open goal; Argentina had ample opportunity to stop the attack throughout the buildup, but failed to do so. That whole sequence was an organic display of athletic superiority that resulted in a major game-defining outcome on the field of play. And VAR completely removed its impact from the game…all because of a tiny foul on the entirely opposite end of the field. The goal of any competitive sport should be to allow the players to decide outcomes on the field of play—to allow all the tiny moments of competition throughout the course of a game to aggregate together into a meritocratic outcome where the better team wins. To that end, the goal of officiating should be to maximize the impact of organic competition on the outcome of the game, not to catch every microscopic infraction at all costs. That is where VAR gets it completely wrong; it prioritizes pedantic technical correctness over organic competition. We saw this in both Egypt and Croatia; outcomes defined predominantly by organic competition are completely erased from history due to this narrow-minded obsession with technical minutiae. Wiping away a game-changing play defined by 99% organic competition simply because an infraction may have contributed 1% is a grave disservice to the game. FIFA would be well served to recognize this and recalibrate the way they implement VAR.
Mark Valorian@markvalorian

It has to be said: this World Cup is tainted by VAR. We’ve now had 2 game outcomes directly manipulated by VAR. Croatia eliminated due to a ball grazing a strand of hair, and now Egypt eliminated because VAR took a goal off the board due to an inconsequential foul on the entire opposite side of the field. The tournament is tainted. This is not meritocracy.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME THEY USED VAR TO TAKE AWAY THE GOAL AFTER EGYPT TOOK THE BALL THE FULL LENGTH OF THE FIELD AND SCORED?!?!? There's no way that makes any sense..

@AmFootballin He was hired two years ago to win in a home World CUP. Quarterfinals at a minimum. He didn't do that. No way he sits around America for the next four years coaching a mediocre team in Gold Cups and CONCACAF waiting for the next WC.

If I'm Poch, I take the extension. Zero pandering. The best players play, period. Spend the next four years scouting, building a system, and building a team with a clear identity. The expectations should be both: close the gap on Europe's best and make sure World Cup qualification is never in doubt. You have to prove you can compete with the top teams while taking care of business in CONCACAF. I wouldn't even be upset if most of this team never gets another call-up. Why should he trust players who haven't earned it?

If you’re Pochettino do you extend with the USMNT? If I’m him, I don’t. Not going to improve much more than this. Next tournament probably has 64 teams. Who you gonna add that’s a real game changer to get us a game further?

@BuschLitePapi44 England's Premier League is the best and easiest league to follow on NBC/Peacock. It's also the most open league, with several different teams chasing the top each season. I would follow that and Champions League on CBS/Paramount+. It's the closest to WC in passion & intensity.

Can we please agree to never call Pulisic captain America again? He lost almost every dribble he had. Showed no real extra effort or emotion on the field. Got injured and didn’t go down instead limped around the field like a pussy and got subbed off. Pathetic.

Dear USA you've not made a lot of friends with this World Cup. After Trump's intervention and the utterly corrupt decision by FIFA to allow Balogun to play tonight and the tainting of The Beautiful Game the rest of the world will hoping Belgium hand you your arse.

My initial thoughts on the Trump/FIFA scandal: 1. Let’s hope it’s resolved on the pitch and Belgium beat the USA. That doesn’t remove the stain but it at least means this World Cup can continue without an asterisk. 2. UEFA and its member associations appear as one on this scandal. UEFA should now put in process preliminary moves to disaffiliate from FIFA and establish a new global governance structure if Infantino doesn’t resign. 3. Unfortunately, the USA team must now face sporting sanctions. They should be barred from competing in the next World Cup and should be ruled out as potential future hosts of the tournament for the next 2 or 3 bids. 4. Any sanction on the US team from competing in future competitions should be less severe - or even rescinded entirely - if they unilaterally decide not to use Balogun at all in tonight’s game. That places a terrible burden on Pochettino and obviously no formal guarantees can be made. But the sporting thing to do would be to choose not to play Balogun and it merits recognition if they take this path. 5. If the USA beat Belgium, other teams should unite behind an effort to expel them from the competition before the quarterfinals begin and their place given to Belgium (or their opponents given a bye to the semifinal). 6. It’s a crying shame that Trump’s crass idiocy and the behaviour of Infantino/FIFA have taken the shine off what has otherwise been a truly fantastic tournament. Everyone with a love of the game should continue to call out their appalling behaviour in public alongside any legal action taken. More thoughts to follow as they come to me.
