Founders often discover what buyers want during due diligence. Which is… not ideal. So we built The Exit Strategy Lab. Free modules, due diligence questionnaires, data room request lists and a sellability score. Completely free. No catch. skool.com/the-exit-strat…

@ListerLawrence @bydarrenstyles I just do not understand why every car on the road now is white black or grey. That Bentley looks stunning in red, I hope seeing how good these cars look changes the fashion for boring coloured cars!

I love a Mulsanne, but this bright red example spotted at the Rosewood and owned by @bydarrenstyles looks absolutely fabulous. What a statement car! 🚘 So much better than the usual black or silver.

@AutoPap Mercedes E63 AMG with the naturally aspirated V8. Just an epic engine. Honourable mention to my BMW F10 m5 the last of the rear wheel drive only monsters

@Old_SchoolEddie 7 - I need an aisle seat because I’m far too tall for plane seats and I don’t want someone sat immediately next to me.

@JamesMelville The bends - Radiohead. I know most people think ok computer but the bends was how I discovered them and it came out when I was 16 so has huge memories attached.

@R8ORC 4x4’s in general tbh. Although also most Audis. Even the fast ones with great engines (the 4.2 v8 was a peach!) they just don’t do it for me. Too much understeer, no feel and I’ve never loved the styling.

Jam Roly-Poly and Custard is the greatest dessert/pudding to ever exist, followed closely by Apple Crumble. We need to see these back on pub dessert menus. I have spoken.

@AutoInfatuation I’d go with the Jag it’s surprisingly good fun. I avoid the Saab like the plague, I’ve lost a fortune on saabs over the years. The Subaru is decent as well.

Estate/Kombi/Wagon under £2,000 baring in mind I have trade access too. 2006> Petrol, ideally Automatic and high spec, leather seats, sunroof, Xenon’s etc. Bit of a laugh with decent power. Runaround/Spare car, thinking these are some options: - B8 Audi A4 Avant 1.8/2.0 TFSI - E91 BMW 320/325i Touring (Hard to find in higher specs) - MK3 Ford Mondeo Titanium X Sport 2.0 EcoBoost Powershift (Had 2 MK3’s, 2.0 TDCI & 2.5T. Both EcoBoost engine and Powershift gearbox are quite blowy-uppy but good when they work correctly 😬) - Jaguar X-Type 3.0 V6 Sovereign Estate - W211 Mercedes-Benz E200/280 Estate (Petrols are rarer) - Renault Laguna 2.0T GT/Initiate Estate (Petrols in these spec are very hard to come by) - Saab 9-3 Aero Estate 2.0/2.8T - Skoda Octavia VRS 2.0 TFSI Estate - Subaru Legacy 2.5/3.0i (Ideally Spec B either as a normal Estate or Outback) - Vauxhall Vectra Elite Estate 2.8T (Found a mental spec one in the trade 🤷‍♂️) - VW Passat 2.0 TSI or 3.2 V6 Estate DSG (Again, rare but findable) - Volvo V70/XC70 2.5T (Unlikely to find a decent one but mega cars!) Am I missing any you can think of?

@AlanJLSmith Having worked on several fund raises in the tech space I can absolutely concur. The uk has terrific talent and some great start ups but the eco system to invest is not there. Raising £1m-10m is nigh on impossible and series B has all but disappeared.

UK Innovation Is Bleeding To Death: The House of Lords Science & Tech Committee just dropped a brutal 2025 report: “We’re world-class at inventing… and world-class at losing it.” - DeepMind? London-born. Google’s now. - Arm? Cambridge chip genius. SoftBank owned. - Graphcore? Bristol AI unicorn. Folded into SoftBank – 500+ UK jobs gone. - Skyscanner? Edinburgh unicorn. £1.4B to Chinese Ctrip - control vanished. - Hopin? £4B peak in London. Liquidated UK ops in 2024 to chase US scale. This isn’t bad luck. It’s a system failure. THE DOOM LOOP 1. UK invents 2. No capital 3. Forced to sell/move abroad 4. No jobs, tax, growth 5. Even less capital Productivity is flat since 2008. Real wages stagnant. We’re trapped. 5 KILLER FINDINGS - Pensions ghosted tech - UK funds invest <1% in growth ventures (US: ~8%). They’d rather buy US bonds than back British AI. - Gov is siloed & slow - Innovate UK, BBB, NWF all separate. UAE deploys billions in a call. We play checkers while they play chess. - We block talent - £1,500+ visa fees + 8-week waits. Top engineers go to Berlin/SF. DeepMind thrived on immigrants - then Google poached the ecosystem. - Regulators fear risk - Over-regulate at lab scale, wonder why no one scales. RADICAL FIXES – ACT NOW 1. Pension Power-Up Mandate 5% of UK pensions to growth equity by 2030 → £100BN+ patient capital. 2. British Scale-Up Command: Merge Innovate UK + BBB + NWF into one agile agency: • £10BN fund • 90-day decisions • Co-invest mandates 3. Golden Visa for Founders • £0 fees • 24-month scale-up visa • Settlement at £10M revenue
Attract 1,000 global founders/year. 4. “Fail Fast” Regulation 24-month sandbox for all new tech. Regulators in startups. Fast-track winners. Learn from failures. 5. Celebrate Builders • National Scale-Up Day • Tax breaks on employee shares • Founder in Residence @ No. 10
Culture eats strategy. Make building cool again. We’re at a tipping point. Lose another decade = more DeepMinds lost forever. Act now = next unicorns stay British. @ExoticBMW I’ve had M cars but I think I’ve always been an amg man at heart. The c63s is a phenomenal car. (Despite owning a heavily modified camaro as I’m not big on American cars and definitely not Cadillacs)
