@EnlightenmentA6

The efforts of madmen are a society of itself, but only if they are written. The wise may substitute one law for another, even into incoherence.

The Law of Threefold Return promises that for every criticism you make three times the criticism will return to you. So you better make sure they're good criticisms

No no no, you see, prices are efficient so this means the price went down because you only searched for it once or knew to use an incognito window and your phone is fully charged. Don't get mad, get smarter!
Mallory McMorrow@MalloryMcMorrow

The cost of your flight went up because you searched for it twice. Your rideshare costs more because your phone battery is dying. This is surveillance pricing – corporations using your own data and behaviors against you. In the US Senate, I’ve got a plan to ban it.

@MarsdanVM @EnlightenmentA6 @ProudBavaria This is nostalgia bias, I preferred the old versions as a concept but in practice it wasn't that different- is Victoria 3 a bad game because they've had to adjust the military system? At launch they didn't even have movable units- I'd argue that's a bigger change.

@EnlightenmentA6 @ProudBavaria Stellaris is easily one of the best 4X games in the market. If it didn't have horrible performance issues it might very well be the best Paradox Games. Besides, games being "re-written" says nothing about their quality.

@EnlightenmentA6 @ProudBavaria To be essentially remade 4 times and as commercially succesfull as it is, it can't be a bad game at it's core. The game has a ton of issues that could probably be solved by a sequel, but Paradox want to milk it as long as they can.

@tmidander @ProudBavaria They set out to build something more like their own spin on Gal Civ, it failed so they pivoted toward what they know (but not all the way) and the entire thing has been oscillating around that fulcrum ever since. Should'a called it a bust and tried something else imo

@EnlightenmentA6 @F_Konopasek @ProudBavaria I quite liked the early game of the release version. It just stagnated in the middle before getting good again in the end game crises. That middle was a painful slog though. The overall game wasn’t bad it just wasn’t right yet. I’m not sure it’s right yet now tbh

@zanyfen @revenant_MMXX Right. So in this argument about what counts as being a fan of the thing, what experiences are required. Your position is that the question is effectively nonsense, there are no required experiences ?

Games are designed to be played, you might as well be saying you can enjoy a song without hearing it or appreciate a painting without seeing it. You are committing a basic error in which the component parts of a game are "the art part" when in reality the game itself is the art.
Deceptacon@StillPulp

@ankowaifu @rsvgcr So you think video games are art, but you think there’s only one way to interact with them? I find it strange that you don’t think appreciating the lore, environment, character design, dialogue etc is enough to make someone a fan. I think most developers would disagree with you.

Even the environmental stuff feels a bit off in some of the comparisons. They remind me of the "photo realistic mod" for Cyberpunk that looks *technically* impressive, but feels like it really strips out the art direction and atmosphere. This isn't DLSS 5, but same vibe...
Tt@eli_r11306

@JayDook Thats fair, one thing DLSS 5 is really good at is environments though, they should maybe let you disable or adjust the face changes

People are mocking this as "German autism" but it's just the physical reality. There's a generation-sized gap with no nuclear engineers, the plants are rotting and can't just be restarted, and a hundred other things. Re-nuclearizing Germany would take several decades

NEW - German Chancellor Merz: "German federal governments had previously decided to phase out nuclear energy. The decision is irreversible. I regret that, but that's how it is."

@EnlightenmentA6 @animalologist I will note that nobody has cared enough to push back against my criticism of the AI passage, which seems to indicate that the human passage (whatever flaws it may or may not have) is certainly much more striking.

Having worked on literary passages with thousands of high schoolers, I’m just gonna let y’all know that >50% of adults straight up do not know what the left passage is saying. It is opaque to them. At least 20% of people will struggle with the one on the right too, although probably not of the people who’d take this test for fun. They’ll ~all basically get & perhaps be moved by the right. At best 2/3 can even grok the left though. Genuinely. The syntax is too unintuitive for people who don’t regularly read old prose. If you struggle with it too much, you’ll also prefer the other one that came more naturally and carried similar emotional weight — perhaps even more, since your faculties weren’t overtaxed trying to understand it

@St_Rev But in anycase, the correct punctuation for a spoken sentence depends on how it was actually spoken... and the only person who can tell you how it was spoken in a novel is the author, so...

@St_Rev Sure, if we're tripping up here because the NYT author doesn't realise that guy is atleast maybe supposed to have actually said those things because of lack of punctuation, that's probably worse
