A teacher at today’s Climate Change Workshop said it best: “It’s up to us to make that difference.” From being inspired as a learner… to becoming the one who inspires. That’s how environmental awareness moves forward. @CleanAirFund @ECDOEZA @ECDEDEAT @GovernmentZA #DFFE

Available scientific information does not indicate a stock collapse. Tweet 4: Snoek is a mobile species, which means catches can vary.

Cape snoek is not overfished, and there is no indication of overfishing in recent years. #snoek

Is snoek really scarce this Easter? For many South African households, especially at Easter, snoek is part of the pickled fish tradition. Here’s what the science says: #snoek #dffe

🚨 URGENT BREAKING NEWS Firefighting Helicopter Crashes on Hout Bay Mountain Amid raging Wildfire In a dramatic incident unfolding this evening in Cape Town, a Working on Fire helicopter has crashed on the steep slopes of Hout Bay Mountain while battling a fast-spreading blaze in the Table Mountain National Park area. The aircraft went down on the mountainside above Hout Bay as it was conducting water-bombing operations to contain the wildfire that has already burned through significant portions of Vlakkenberg and is threatening nearby communities and historic wine farms. Emergency services have rushed to the scene with ground crews and rescue teams responding urgently under challenging conditions, including strong winds and low cloud cover that have hampered aerial efforts throughout the day. Both pilots have been confirmed safe, with reports indicating only minor injuries in what many are calling a miraculous escape. A secondary fire sparked by the crash is now being managed by on-site fire crews.

“Exposing the public to the work done in our national gardens allows us to encourage South Africans to value our wildlife and natural heritage. When people appreciate the species in places like this, they are more likely to protect them in their own communities,” - Deputy Minister Singh as he marked National Gardens Week with a visit to the National Zoological Gardens and The National Botanical Gardens. National Gardens Week is an opportunity for all South Africans to discover the important work taking place in the country’s zoological and botanical gardens — from scientific research and biodiversity conservation to environmental education and tourism. Throughout the week, the public is encouraged to visit these spaces and experience first-hand the role they play in protecting South Africa’s rich natural heritage. Visitors can enjoy free entry to participating national gardens throughout the week, offering families, students and tourists an opportunity to explore these spaces, learn about conservation, and reconnect with nature.
