if the state is going to be Christian, how is it not wielding the gospel?
Christian prince without gospel? That sounds Harry Emerson Fosdick.
Stephen Wolfe@PerfInjust
CN is a political philosophy. What do you want? The state to wield the gospel?
English

@Canonandcreed It's simple. These 7 groups are Protestants: Anglicans, Presbyterians, Reformed, Lutherans, Congregationalists, Methodists, and Baptists. That's it.
English

When Romanists need “Protestant” to refer to the smallest number possible — it’s the narrowest grouping possible that makes the cut.
When Romanists need “Protestant” to refer to the largest possible number to try and say it’s a mass of metastasizing confusion — four gazillion denominations — all of a sudden it’s the largest possible sampling needed to argue.
How convenient.

@5Solas Yet Roman Catholics are 1.4 billion, almost double all Protestant denominations combined lol. “Dismantled” 😂
English

@KromerHarry @ehenes I would say that the Nicene Creed is the level of doctrinal unity required.
English

I think conservative holdouts is a misnomer. They would be properly labeled as liberals who don't really have a strong conviction about doctrinal Unity. If they do not have any convictions about removing the Heretics within their denomination then doctrinal truth is of little relevance to them. So I would not consider them to biblical conservatives at all. What exactly are they truly conserving?
They're conserving Unity at the expense of biblical truth which I don't think is a a Christian and biblical understanding of Christian Unity. We are to never compromise Truth for the sake of unity but that's exactly what Redeemed Zoomer does. And he promotes this unorthodox view as being the ideal. Many don't see it that way.
Jesus taught that true unity comes when believers embrace biblical truth. There is no essential unity with those who deny core doctrines of the Bible.
John 17
17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

@EugenicPolemic @TulipPatriot Right. The existence of the Constitution implies the right of secession.
English

@TulipPatriot @EthanDelaney95 They weren't amending it as such. They were seceding from under it, as per Article II:
"Each state retains its sovereignty, freedom and independence, and every Power, Jurisdiction and right, which is not by this confederation expressly delegated to the United States."
English

@LutheranAnswers Let me guess it was another "muh infallible list" epistemic nihilism vid?
English

@ehenes Do you think the conservative holdouts in the PCUSA are compromised or just "breaking the rules"?
English

@ehenes Right. It definitely sounds like a systemic error we would do good to separate from.
English

@ehenes The way I see it, if possible, we should seek to remain in the denomination, but if we cannot properly separate from error without leaving, then we have to leave.
English

@TulipPatriot True. It looks like it was coerced in a sense, but it was still entered into through ratification. The 9 state minimum didn't make Rhode Island join. The problem is the behavior of the US under the Federalist party, not the Constitution itself.
English

@EthanDelaney95 In May 1790, the U.S. Senate passed a bill to completely cut off all commercial trade with Rhode Island and demand payment for its war debts because they hadn't ratified yet. It was an immediate economic siege, not a voluntary invitation.
By design from day 1.
English

@EthanDelaney95 Auburn Affirmation and the 1927 settlement required them to treat denial of vital Christian doctrines as compatible with lawful ordination. One could still believe the virgin birth and resurrection, but they had to recognize men who denied them as legitimate ministers, protected.
English

@ProvisionistP That moment you realize BTFOTW is eternal, not temporal, so if no one was in Christ then, no one is now.
English

@ReallyOldLife @GeorgeSayour *Christianity. We don't have to establish a denomination to do this.
English

Christian nationalism is illiberal.
It rejects religious liberty as the best political basis for the church's ministry.
This was the point of the column.
@GeorgeSayour in 16 tweets never once addresses the point.
Did George read the column?
George Sayour@GeorgeSayour
English

@ehenes That last part is interesting. What did that entail?
English

@EthanDelaney95 The PCUSA allowed ministers to deny the virgin birth and bodily resurrection while still. By 1936, those doctrines were no longer treated as necessary for Christian ministry, and others were bound to recognize those individuals as ministers in good standing, binding consciences.
English

@rootcausesleuth That translation. It clearly means those who were ordained by God to eternal life, believed.
English

@EthanDelaney95 You tell me: What is the foundation of the Christian church?
I'll show you how the mainline in 1936 destroyed it. The records are clear.
