@WNTSlife @AnglianWater I’ve reported it on several occasions. There is a notice on the lamp post , dated July, saying they are aware of it. They cordoned it off in September, then took it down. The latest I heard is that it is close to a gas main, so have to wait for the gas board to attend.

@SophieMHistory The closing remarks of the Grenfell inquiry, talk about a world without empathy and how little the fate of ordinary people were taken into account when key decisions were taken. It was ever thus.

A curious addendum to this rather heartless case: the little boy's father was also badly injured on the railway line, in the same spot, almost exactly three years before. He died following amputation.

In 1861, a little boy was killed on the ECML at Westwood. He lived at Westwood Row, but the nearest water pump was across the line. His mother sent him to collect water. He was five, he thought he could outrun a train. He could not.
