🚨 NEW: How Keir Starmer is set to approach his meeting with President Trump on Thursday - In No 10, Starmer and his aides are wargaming both the public and private elements of the trip - According to one source, Starmer will use the one-to-one to move Trump to a position where he acknowledges two key points: 1. Any peace deal must be underwritten with US security guarantees – even without troops on the ground 2. Ukraine must emerge as a sustainable entity – free to set its own path and with the money to rebuild its economy and military - He will make the point that any peace deal will be judged in history – by whether it is successful or not – and play to Trump's "vanity" by saying its legacy will ultimately be his - To influence Trump, Starmer will also tell him he is right about European defence spending and will indicate that the UK will not just hit 2.5% by the end of the decade but set a path towards 3% - Some in Government fear Macron will upstage Starmer by meeting Trump first on Monday, but a veteran diplomat says this could work in his favour – Trump never liked being "lectured to" by Macron and knows he is on the way out, while "Starmer will be there for the rest of his term… that sort of thing matters to the President" - Britain’s last ambassador to the US says Starmer has an advantage over some European leaders since he is the only one who has shown any support for Trump’s peace plan. The suggestion of peacekeeping troops "will not have gone unnoticed.... that’s not going to get you gratitude, but it will give you a bit more credibility in the room" - Starmer will also try to convince Trump not to impose 21% tariffs on UK exports, which could knock 0.4% (£24bn) off GDP over two years and make it impossible for Reeves to balance the books without tax rises – let alone find £5bn to raise defence spending to 2.5% - He will therefore argue that weakening America’s allies financially will make the UK and other EU states less able to carry the burden of additional defence spending - Starmer and his team are also aware of the public optics – YouGov shows most voters dislike Trump. One insider said: "They’re thinking about the body language and how Starmer needs to come across. He has to own the space and not be dominated by Trump. That is really very important." [@thetimes]

@PaulSchleifer @HeinzUK Do you think for one moment that all these companies would advertise on #GBNews if the audience numbers (and their money) were not there? Your irrational fear of an alternative view channel will not be changed by trying to shame their advertisers. Cry more.

@dshensmith @FiveGuysUK In appeasing one sector of society, they ignore the bacon eating majority? There must now be room in the market for a new, completely non-halal burger chain as competitors? Or would that be seen as non-inclusive? Not like #FiveGuys at all…..

@GBNEWS Use frozen Russian assets. Cancel overseas aid, except to Ukraine. Cancel #NetZero (not much point if WW3 imminent anyway?) Cancel all the communist vanity projects. There is your money, nothing more from the taxpayer. #LabourFail

@justdave89now If you want to see the real picture, repeal the cancellation of full council elections. Pretty sure voter turn out in nondescript small wards on their own will not show the national picture. I would have thought a 200K+ membership in 8 months would have sown your fear anyway

When are we Europeans going to stop being scandalised about Donald Trump and start helping him to end this war? Of course Ukraine didn’t start the war. You might as well say that America attacked Japan at Pearl Harbor. Of course a country undergoing a violent invasion should not be staging elections. There was no general election in the UK from 1935 to 1945. Of course Zelenskyy’s ratings are not 4%. They are actually about the same as Trump’s. Trump’s statements are not intended to be historically accurate but to shock Europeans into action. In particular the US can see $300bn of frozen Russian assets - mainly in Belgium. That is cash that could and should be used to pay Ukraine and compensate the US for its support. Why is Europe preventing the unfreezing of Putin’s cash? The US believes Belgium, France and other countries are blocking. It’s absurd. We need to get serious and fast.

@DPJHodges It’s not that simple and certainly not as clear cut as Trump says. The simple fact is that Putin can only be beaten from within Russia and Ukraine cannot stand up to him forever without western help. We cannot keep throwing assets at a lost cause. Better to save lives now.

There are very few black and white moments in politics. But this is one of them. Who is prepared to say they stand with Zelensky and Ukraine. And who is prepared to say they stand with Trump and Putin. It's that simple.

@gorbalsgoebbels As a Salisbury resident, I can assure you nothing is forgotten. It’s not about “siding” with Russia, it’s about stopping the killing - by whatever means. What is the alternative? Are you volunteering for the international brigade?

How quickly we in Britain forget the murder of Litvinenko, the Salisbury poisoning, killing of journalists via windows, and the “death” of Navalny. Britons who are siding with Russia are traitors. Real ones. Not just imagined. Sympathisers and Putin puppets. Shame on you.

@narindertweets @GBNEWS @marksandspencer Surprising? Major company wants to advertise where the majority of British people feel they are most comfortable. Why spend ££££ advertising on left-wing talking shops where advocates apparently don’t have a pot to p*ss in? Sound like good business sense. #M&S

The 3 worst things ever to happen to the UK in its history. 1. Thatcher - privatisation. 2. Cameron and Osborne - austerity. 3. The clown Johnson and his hard Brexit. There you have it - 3 Tory extirpations and essentially extinctions of UK society - nothing more to be said.

The Europeans screwed it up twice in the 20th C. and has it not been for the British and later, the Americans, Putin today would be the least of our problems. Dividing Europe from the US, whomever is President is total folly. We need their strength, they need our reason #Ukraine

🚨WAR - Starmer says he’s ready to send your children to die in a war over rare earth, in a territory you don’t care about. He will never have my boys for his meat grinder. This is not a war to protect our shores, our people or our values. he can’t be bothered to do that 🚨

@LukeEdwardsTele The fact that it takes an American to say what the majority feel, but are scared of saying in this country, plus that those who support the suppression of free speech think JD Vance was wrong to say it, makes every word of his ironically right. #JDVance

I’m British, this is Britain and I have no interest in what an American vice president has to say about this country. A country he doesn’t understand, love or appreciate. Let alone live in. The reaction of so called “patriots” to his provocative attempt to meddle is truly jaw droopingly cringe.
