@PlayStation Console will be cheaper without the drive. Only a very small percentage of people were buying discs to begin with. The conservationalists are delusional. You won't be able to play the game with that disc in 20 years anyway, because the game isn't on the disc.

@PlayStation This is a step in the right direction. If you want your games everywhere you go and seamless. Digital is where it’s at. Nintendo started this by giving you the illusion you are keeping a physical key card when in fact it’s all digital.

There's a lot of nuances here. First off, you never own a game. You're buying a one time license fee to use it. And games these days are getting massive. GTA 6 is likely to be >= 200GB. You can't fit that on any single disc and that's not the type of game you can just swap discs when you get to a new area. So then what? You have multiple discs you have to use to install it on your internal drive? That's the same thing really. The issue here is the second article, when they start closing down the old stores for old consoles and you lose access to those games. That's a problem. What's the solution? Maybe they need to sell the game on write locked flash drives. That would be a good compromise. That way you still have some physical copy of it. But as for discs, that's over. That's like asking for your music to be on CDs these days. If you're still buying CDs... Good luck.

@GPrime85 It isn't widely available, particularly affordable and the government is obstructive in allowing you go get it. Plus we get maybe a fortnight of this a year, paying thousands for that makes little sense.
