@AzraelSch @FreeTalkLive There are multiple parts to this. You can get most of that protection from trademark (distinct from but often mixed in with copyright). If you want to have an idea of what a world like that looks like look like. The fashion world is trademark without copyright.

@FreeTalkLive Copyright law is what prevents big companies from just taking everything from smaller creators and use it for themselves. Without copyright, many idea would not be spread because people are too scared of having their ideas stolen to voice them. And AI literally proves that.

Ideas are the one thing in the universe that become more valuable when they spread. Intellectual property asks us to pretend the opposite. It claims that if I arrange information in a particular pattern, I acquire a government-enforced monopoly over how other people may use, remix, learn from, or build upon it. Abolish it.

Our laws surrounding speech are needlessly draconian, so it's actually entirely reasonable to not want to attach your identity to an account. The right to anonymity online is a fundamental digital right, and one that people used to stand up for.
Tony Harwood@sciantificnew

If banning social media for U16s means linking a profile to an ID to verify age then I think that's all the more reason to do it. If you are worried about legal repercussions of what you are saying on SM then that's a pretty good hint that you probably shouldn't be saying it.

@MichaelThiessen Manipulate in what way? There are markdown parsers that could convert the info it encodes into a different format for further transformation. But the question is if markdown has a syntax for the concept you want to encode, you could add your own custom extensions as well.

I’m so sick of Markdown right now. It’s amazing for humans and LLMs, but impossible to process or manipulate otherwise. Is there anything that renders like Markdown (for humans) but has a strict structure (like XML/YAML/etc) so it’s easy to manipulate? Ideally, a superset of Markdown, so it “just works” and renders like normal Markdown. But with added structure that makes it easy to parse and verify and manipulate. I’m building my own thing currently but I’d rather not.

‼️ The United Kingdom said it will ban social media for anyone younger than 16. This is a wide-ranging rule that would block most major apps for children in that age group. Do you think it’s justified? 🅰️ Yes 👏 🅱️ No

This is deeply concerning. Age verification is not the solution, and our government should not be stepping in to parent young people in place of those who brought them into the world. Government intervention should always be minimal. #VoteRestore 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

@GurvSC I'm suspect an imminent Russia war. And they want to know where the young adults are then, so they can send them to war. been racking my brain for what use this ban would have.it's what makes the most sense to me. Of course that is my personal conspiracy.

What’s funny about the idea of a social media ban is that no government who was benefitting politically from young teens on social media would do it. The only reason they want to now is that young teenagers are now choosing to be conservative. They want to control all information fed to them, since where they have the most power is the school system which is an indoctrination machine.

Digital ID & Central Bank Digital currency seem sadly inevitable because few seem to see the extent of the danger. We're past 1984. We've allowed far too much online manipulation already. Few understand the dangers of this space, or, indeed the manipulation already happening.

@kevinhollinrake I'm sure I'm not the only one to tell you this. But this just is technically unfeasable. Even the best attempt the app created by the EU can only really prove *someone* is over a certain age. I have a lot more I could say but not more characters to say it.

Back door to Digital ID? Some are asking if the under-16s social media ban is a backdoor to Digital ID? As far as Kemi and the Conservatives are concerned, absolutely not. We are entirely opposed to digital ID and want to see the ban implemented in a way that doesn’t force mandatory digital ID onto anyone. Proving your age for social media should be no more intrusive than it is for buying alcohol.

I implemented my own social media ban. I told my kids they aren't having TikTok, as it is answerable to the Chinese state. Then, they didn't have TikTok. No Digital ID was required. I am their parent, not their friend. I don't need the government to parent my children.

@painfully_bland What does safe even mean. Violent images can't really hurt you. You are in many ways more safe on social media and the Internet. Are you completely safe no. But you are not completely safe anywhere. Social media is considerably safer than many other places.

“Let kids be kids”. Where? Where should kids be kids? Everywhere is hostile to kids & teens, doubly so in the US but Europe isn’t a bastion for kids’ well-being either. How much of a slave do you have to be to actually fall for surveillance state propaganda as a “socialist”
Joakim 🌹🇳🇴🇪🇺@joakial_

Kids should not spend hours on their phones every day, exposed to self-harm content, pornography, violence, and extremist or hateful material. Yet that is the reality today. Parents alone cannot solve this, so governments should enforce age limits. Let kids be kids.
