You know what, most people don’t understand this. They think wealth inequality is bad, not realizing it is actually good. It’s not a bug in the system of capitalism, it’s a feature, and a great one. Let me explain: First remember in economics you have two types of goods and services, consumer goods and capital goods. If an economy only spends money on consumer goods, it won’t grow. It must spend money on capital goods, by reducing spending on consumer goods, to grow. Now consider a business where there is one owner that makes $100 million in profit per year. How much of it will he spend on consumer goods and how much will he invest back into the company (capital goods)? Well, let’s say he loves spending money but only manages to spend $50 million. The other $50 million he invests. And let’s say there are 100,000 employees in his company making $100,000. His company grows, because of the investment, by 10%, 5% of which he pays to the employees in increased salaries. So now each employee makes $105,000. Now consider the same business but owned by the 100,000 employees. $100 million profit divided equally means each person gets a $1000 increase in salary, year 1. All employees spend the entire $1000. None invest back into the company. The company is unable to grow. Year 1 each employee makes $101k, $1000 more than employees of the greedy one owner capitalist business. Year 2 they also make $101k, since there is no growth. In year 2, the employees of the capitalist business are better off than the employee owned business. These are the two extremes of capitalism and socialism. As you can see, capitalism leads to far better outcomes, BECAUSE OF WEALTH INEQUALITY. Rich people don’t spend all their money. Poor people do that. The reality is of course, somewhere in the middle of these two extremes. Capitalist businesses have many owners (shareholders), and social businesses have to take some of the profits for reinvestment. But comparing the two, the capitalist business will always outgrow the socialist business. And a difference in growth of just 2-3% per year will compound and become an enormous difference in wealth between the two. The social business employees will suffer compared to the capitalist business. They will be equal, in their suffering. If Elon succeeds and gets this pay package, it will stay invested in capitalist businesses. He won’t be spending it all on luxuries, like what would happen if that wealth were distributed to his employees, and his employees will not realize it that they are better off if he DOESNT give them his money.

**AI slop** (noun) — the current dominant aesthetic & content category of the internet in 2025–2026 Characteristics usually include some combination of: - hyper-saturated colors that look like they were vomited by a color slider on meth - 12 different lighting sources fighting in the same scene - fingers that have gone through 4 divorces and 2 religious awakenings - skin texture that resembles vinyl records left in a hot car - random floating magical particles / lens flares / god-rays even when it's an office scene - eyes with the thousand-yard stare of someone who just saw their own prompt - text that says "anime" things but is spelled like it was designed by someone who hates literacy - subjects that are simultaneously 21 years old and 87 years old - uncanny mixture of Disney, Instagram face, Akira, Fortnite, Soviet propaganda poster and Catholic saint iconography Sample species of AI slop you see daily: - Sad anime girl sitting on roof edge looking at city, back turned, wearing oversized hoodie, raining, neon signs, motivational quote in unreadable font - Gigachad biker warrior holding a plastic gun, dramatic low angle, cape blowing in wind that exists only around him - Cute cottagecore girl making flower crown in golden-hour forest, somehow also cyberpunk elements - Post-apocalyptic cyber-ninja with kitten ears katana, cigarettes, neon city burning in background - motivational gym-bro quote over shirtless oiled abs at sunset, 47 different rim lights - all of that mashed together with "extend video" feature It's that it's the particular flavor of lazy, reward-hacked, maximally thumb-stopping sludge that the current generation of image models + fine-tunes + prompt engineers have converged on when left to optimize for engagement. Basically the visual equivalent of "skibidi toilet brainrot but make it pretty and anime". You seeing it too, or you are already numb of it? 😄

I am an American who also thinks Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. Ever. Under any president. I would support this effort under Obama, Clinton, Bush, Biden, etc. People are too stupid. They don’t understand what nuclear war is. There will never be a better opportunity than now to stop Iran from attaining nuclear weapons. Israel destroyed their air defenses last year.

Is it time to take Israel to the woodshed and give them a spanking? As a Christian, we have a Biblical mandate to support Israel, but they do make it pretty dang hard to do so at times. We are living in very interesting times. I harken back to when I was a kid at church and the elders would say the end is near. I would just look at them like they were nuts. Now, I’m starting to think they might have been onto something. What a shit show we have on our hands. It’s sad and laughable all at the same time.

@skdh I think a lot of the physics discoveries that were made on the blackboard instead of the laboratory were first inspired by findings in the laboratory. We do need bigger, better laboratories. I don’t think a better blackboard (AI) alone will be enough to make significant progress.

@ChrisO_wiki So you're just totally fine with the leadership of your country, arbitrarily threatening one of its core allies for the past 75 years, to ignore their sovereignty, invade their territory, and steal their resources, with the flimsiest of justifications, despite being part of a mutual defense pact with this country. This is just reprehensible behavior, and no justification exists. Yet your leaders acting like cheap thugs does not appear to bother you in the least.... And you dare indict Europeans for refusing to be dragged along to your illegal way in Iran. You have neither sense nor honor.

We had a golden opportunity. Iran’s air defenses were down since june/.july because of Israel’s unprecedented operation. We couldn’t let that pass. We either get a nuclear deal with Iran or we destroy their nukes. They cannot be allowed to have nukes and anyone who argues they can is an absolute idiot.

There is zero doubt that the White House is in panic mode (for the last 7 days and with increasing intensity). I predicted a quick TACO, and that was the plan all along - but this plan is failing. The costs for Trump and the US are immense, and POTUS is fully aware of it. Does that mean the war will stop soon? I am not sure anymore - but this is a giant exploding train wreck and everyone knows it. It is now up to POTUS to gather the will to make it end. Every day that goes by, the costs rise exponentially. Once it's done, fire everyone who gave bad advice and sever the ties to all forces that pushed for this.

Nuclear weapons. We can’t attack North Korea because of nukes. That is the point of having them. Islam is a death cult. A theocratic regime that believes dying is the greatest moral good creates a major problem with MAD doctrine. North Korea will not use its nukes because the leader wants to live. Iran has proven otherwise. Removing the risk is more important than the midterms. Once they had nukes, they would hold the world hostage. This should have been taken care of by Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama. It wasn’t. It was not going to get better; all other options have been exhausted. You might be right that Iran would not be a threat. I am not worried about Russia and China using nukes because of MAD, but you should take Iran seriously. Are you willing to bet the world on being right? It is better that they are taken off the board.

@JOBhakdi North Korea does not have it’s air ddefenses down! Iran did have it’s air defenses down, since June/July, when Israel knocked them out in one of the most stunning operations the world has ever seen. We would never get another opportunity like this to take out Iran.

I don’t get it. If Hezbollah had flats in this block (unlikely in central Beirut but not impossible) why did the Israelis give everyone inside an hour to get out — including those they wanted to kill? And if there weren’t any Hezbollah people there, why destroy a building with dozens of civilians in it?
The Associated Press@AP

An Israeli airstrike struck an apartment building in central Beirut, on Wednesday. The Israeli army had warned residents to evacuate about an hour before completely flattening it as day broke.

Here's the original video, which looks like it's actual speed. I used two markers and consistently measured it. It took 75 frames in a 30 FPS video to travel 212.63 ft equating to 57.9 MPH (probably 60). The incident occurred in August of 2025. These are just facts. Yes the driver should have intervened sooner. Yes, FSD was approaching way too fast.

I normally don't bother armchair quarterbacking these situations. But watching the Tesla Stans come into the comments is funny. Elon said Autopilot (FSD?) was disengaged 4s before the impact which if you watch the video looks like it was going way too fast at that point. Am I missing something?

It can go highway speeds just fine, and brake at the last second. Very very good braking on Teslas. Both large caliper brakes, AND regenerative braking, slows the vehicle quickly. You guys are way off. 4 seconds is an eternity for a tesla to brake. It needs less than half that time. If you owned a tesla with FSD you would know that sometimes it comes into turns uncomfortably fast for an untrained human driver, but handles the turn fine with no uncomfortable centrifugal acceleration during the turn. The uncomfortableness is in your head because you just don’t trust the system. She likely panicked and turned it off. If she kept the system on, there would be no crash.

No, it can see the turn and will slow down when it’s time to slow down, not when YOU THINK it’s time to slow down. Teslas have very good brakes and are not your average car with shitty brakes. They can stop on a dime. All she had to do was hit the brakes and this never would have happened.

My hunch of what happened here is the truck thought its as on the highway below which is "next" to it. Therefor it didn't anticipate the turn.

You do know right directly next to the electronic door button is the regular manual door release lever don’t you? Many times occupants in my Teslas don’t even realize to use the electronic door release button & instead use the manual one because it’s so apparent & obvious. The only difference is the electronic release also lowers the window glass a bit as Teslas have frameless door window & using the button drops the window to eliminate slamming the door after manually opening by it which doesn’t lower the glass otherwise, allowing possibility of the glass then pressuring against the seal harder than if it was electronically released & chance of glass or door seal damage. Apparently you don’t know or understand that this is fact & most people think it’s only 100% automatic with no manual override. Aside from that point, many accidents across multiple car manufacturers have doors jammed when in certain accidents, hence the jaws of life most rescue workers utilize as a rescue tool.

The cyber truck lost me when the drunk man crashed his truck and became trapped inside because the electrical system lost power, preventing the door from opening and literally trapping him inside. The ion batteries caught fire - which to my understanding is a fire nigh impossible to put out - and burned him alive inside.
