I know there is a lot of news around but can someone at the Beeb explain to me how a man they keep telling us might be the next PM getting an undisclosed donation of FIVE MILLION POUNDS from a Thai based crypto dealer (with a BS explanation about it being for lifelong security) is not even a news story when the man he wants to replace led the news for days over some glasses and Arsenal tickets?

@almurray @Tonisenior Al, I have only the utmost respect for everything you do, but please please please never use that word again. You’re British. It’s Int. nothing more. Anything else is disgustingly colonial. 🫡

.@Tonisenior's book about the Cambridge Spies is so good: the extent to which the Sovs penetrated the British and US establishments is staggering. It's making me wonder if some of the national pride in Bletchley etc is a subconscious effort to credit ourselves with a good intel war when we had been disastrously turned over.

The King did what he had to do in his speech in Congress. But even though the next US president will no doubt work hard to rebuild relationships with NATO, no British, Canadian or European government will forget what Donald Trump has done and said. It can always happen again.

One for our defence chiefs @JohnHealey_MP PRESS RELEASE I [Insert Rank, Title, Name, Gongs] (delete as appropriate) [CDS / VCDS/ 1st Sea Lord / CGS/ CAS/ C Cy SO Com / CDP / Other] can no longer remain silent and pretend I can do my job to help keep this country safe in the face of a lack of proper funding, erosion of the moral component of fighting power through lawfare, instigated by the Attorney General and backed by our PM, misinterpretation of facts by political masters and constant pressure not to rock the boat. When it is easier to order the launch of a missile (if we had any) than send a tweet, our political leadership is broken. I must therefore resign with immediate effect so I can highlight the dire straight our military is in. We can no longer defend the UK or British interests. I am stepping aside for family reasons and to finish my book with a current working title of ‘Moral Fibre’ Yours etc

With Orbán gone, NATO and the EU have lost a Putin-influenced brake on their decision-making. It’s another blow to Russia—and a disappointment to Trump and Vance, who failed to influence the vote.

What fantastic news from Hungary. Proof that if you stand up to it right wing kleptocratic populist authoritarianism can be beaten. Orban will now flee somewhere with his wealth. But this is more than a bad night for him. It is a bad night for Putin who as in Moldova spent a fortune trying to rig it. It is a bad night for Trump. It is a bad night for Vance and Rubio who believed that their mere presence in Budapest would swing the vote Orban’s way. They helped Magyar! . It is a bad night for Farage the AfD and Le Pen because it shows that when their brand of politics is exposed to serious opposition and scrutiny it collapses. Magyar is far from the perfect leader but my God he deserves all the congratulations coming his way for ousting Orban and showing how it can be done. He now has the tough job of dismantling the corrupt systems and bodies installed over 16 years. The people of Hungary deserve our thanks for showing these people can be beaten. And Zelensky now deserves far greater support from Europe.

Mar 13: "We won the war." Mar 14: "Please help us." Mar 15: "If you don't help us, I will certainly remember it." Mar 16: "Actually, we don't need any help at all."
