@justahaloguy Is that a Bungie v 343 distinction though, or just the result of the natural shift of the industry realizing players wanted more than the “strong silent type” protagonist trope that Bungie started with and had already started moving away from by the time 343 took over?

I agree with this. Bungie Halo characters are notoriously flat, with some exceptions. Out of all the criticism 343 got, the depth of characters isn’t one of them (for me at least).

@justahaloguy I don't know why it's so 'terrible' in execution. Bungie's characters were extremely thin, excluding the Arbiter. Yet expectations for Locke seems... high but undefined. When previous games introduced largely static characters, it was fine, but apparently not for Locke.
