What was Jimmy Carter doing in the Supreme Court last week?
Rob@rgsmith91

@dcsandbrook @TheRestHistory Unprecedented scenes in the UK Supreme Court today when one of the judges’ phones started playing TRIH theme. Made it as far as @holland_tom doing his Carter impression before he managed to hit pause

Welcome to the world of might is right! This should motivate every country to start its own nuclear bomb program because they cannot rely on international rule of law and AI will make the development easier. How much damage one dumbass can cause! The French nuclear arsenal should be moved to Greenland asap as a favor to the world to activate the MAD defense and deter Trump!
The Kobeissi Letter@KobeissiLetter

BREAKING: President Trump announces a 10% tariff on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, Netherlands, and Finland beginning February 1st. This tariff will be increased to 25% beginning on June 1st. Tariffs will remain in effect until the US reaches a deal to buy Greenland. “It is time for Denmark to give back,” Trump says.

have you seen my bookmarks? they’re synced into sublime. they’re literally in obsidian. they’re in vim, just :q. they’re in tana, surfaced as a new daily node. they’re literally in mem ai whispering my own thoughts back to me. you can grep them. you can awk them. you can literally pipe them into less. dude they’re in roam, forming a graph. they’re in notepad++, synced via dropbox into logseq. they’re rsynced to my nas, then readwise pulls the highlights and syncs them into notion. they’re in kindle, but also in kindle->readwise->obsidian->notion->tana->back to mem. ai is resurfacing it. ai is hallucinating new notes i didn’t even write. you can ssh into my server. you can tail -f my life. you can dive into notion. you can grep the graph. you can ask the ai. your second brain thought of it for you.

somebody had to do it, might as well be me! (Do they have AI in the UK?) "how many emails would have to be deleted to impact water usage?" AI: "Short answer: an awful lot—deleting email barely moves the needle on water. Here’s a back-of-the-envelope using reasonable, public figures: Assume a small, no-attachment email ≈ 75 kB. With ~3x redundancy in the cloud that’s ≈ 225 kB (= 0.00022 GB) stored. Typical data-center energy for storage averages a few kWh per GB per year. Use ~5 kWh/GB-year (mid-range). Water use for cooling often averages ~0.5 liters per kWh (varies widely by site and season). Putting that together: 0.00022 GB × 5 kWh/GB-yr × 0.5 L/kWh ≈ 0.00055 liters per email per year (about half a milliliter). What that means: ~1,800 emails deleted (and kept deleted for a year) ≈ 1 liter of water saved. A 5-minute shower (≈ 50–75 L with a low-flow head) ≈ 90,000–140,000 emails. Fixing a leaky toilet (200–400 L/day) dwarfs email by >300,000–700,000 emails per day. So while deleting emails isn’t harmful, it’s not an impactful water-saving tactic. If you want meaningful water savings at home, prioritize fixing leaks, shorter showers, efficient fixtures, and reducing outdoor watering."

@chat_SBC maybe true for a short bit, if only directionally, but microsoft won’t pour concrete or make textile… so the indices would have to be either reduced to 7 or a major correction takes place

If mag7 goes up 30%/year and the rest go down 15-20%, wouldn’t the indices mix shift to 20-30% annual returns as the deadweight shrinks ?

. @levie has a great rationale for b2b software sticking around. Companies are not buying bits, they're buying an operational workflow coming from deep domain understanding. But that argument doesn't hold for my individual needs. I know what I want best.
martin_casado@martin_casado

These days when I want to do something (notes, calendar, simple record keeping) my mind first goes to vibe coding it rather than using someone else's software. Perhaps the era of bespoke software is here ...

You can just take academic papers and paste them into Gemini 2.5/ChatGPT o3/Claude 4 with the prompt "build me a game based on this paper, make it interesting and thematic but still conveying key findings" and get a tiny working educational game. (In this case, I used Gemini)
