Very excited to say I have @kaarmann @transferwise on 20VC tomorrow. Question: What do we have to discuss? What questions would you love to hear answered? Twitter, work your magic... 😉

@JamieCDubya The train analogy reminds me of Thiel's 10x technology rule. No wonder Wise was Valar's first EU investment

Strangely forgotten that the UK had mostly solved fertility by 2008, having grown its fertility rate to 1.92 The year-on-year natural decline at this rate is easily sustainable, only amounting to a ~12.5% reduction every 50 years

Are there any examples of cyclical companies who pile up cash waiting for the down cycle and then just buy back stock like crazy?

@FundamentalGoob Everything I've read so far suggests issues are contained and furthermore apply to the legacy business who's operations are winding down. @AboveAvgOdds's suggestion that it is in managments best interests to generously estimate the losses from this unit is also noteworthy.

$WISE posts HY NPAT +55pc to £217m on market cap $7.9b, fintech trades around 15x profits, sky high margins, should list on ASX and get itself goosed to Nirvana like $PME $20b market cap :) wise.com/imaginary-v2/i…

The second biggest loser - The Buy-to-let sector? Stamp duty at 5% is likely to make future investment in this area much harder to make work financially. You immediately lose 5% of your investment due to stamp duty. Thoughts?

Biggest budget loser - UK farming. Subject to inheritance tax (20% over £1m) for what appears to be the first time. Family farms can no longer be passed down - if part of them is sold to meet IHT, they will become too small and unviable. A questionable move. Thoughts?

@MallardResearch @reb40 @groupstageexit Yeah, I get that. Just the perspective of someone new. No fees on same day bookings for operators I've used so far, so haven't had big enough incentive to book outside trainline

#TRN Upgrades its upgrade to its upgrade 👍 Good to see upgrades (like profit warnings) can run in 3’s Low margin but operating leverage coming in to play I use Trainline for my travels around the UK & Europe so guess I’ve contributed

Just had a read of @FundamentalGoob's writeup of WISE PLC. Absolutely excellent. If you aren't following them already, please do.

@reb40 @groupstageexit Recent UK mover here: I've been using Trainline for all my small trips. I haven't got a clue of all the different operators, so much easier. But yes the value prop is lower for locals This is coming from a usual tight arse too.

@groupstageexit Can’t make me 😉 In all seriousness I regularly use 4 different train operators so that’s 4 different apps with 4 different log ins and passwords which is a pain 🤷🏻‍♀️ Plus I was recently on holiday in Europe and using 1 app was much much easier Convenience wins

@Leven954 Revolut want to be a full bank in most places they operate, and that will give them direct connection infrastructure. Takes longer though

@FundamentalGoob I’m not sure the market fully understands the regulatory and engineering moat being created here. These things don’t happen overnight and the competition (ie Revolut) sits on third party infrastructure i believe?

Japan next in line for $WISE central bank connections; first non-bank approved. This will be a big one + extends already large direct connections lead. (Asia/Pacific is still only 20% of revenue and I suspect this is AU weighted) fundamentalgoob.substack.com/p/wise-plc-ram…
