Staff are as frustrated as passengers when it comes to issues such as this. I have received dozens of DMs (NO names ever published) from staff, about what it's like on the front line and the apathy they feel from very senior management. They feel very let down.

I have made it a personal rule not to criticise the railway on this means. They have a hard enough job as it is. But for Pete’s sake, who at the DfT imposed 4 car units on Cross Country Trains? Still, great camaraderie in my corridor connection amongst my fellow sufferers 😁

. @CrossCountryUK Manchester to Birmingham and then Birmingham to Exeter today. Both massively over crowded passengers stood for hours all through the train and vestibule areas. Get some bigger and better trains! It’s been like this for years #Sardines #GreatBritishRailways

@Guard_Amos @AshValeCommuter Maybe that's why they think that then? Because it was a solved problem 30 years ago and now we pay a LOT more for something worse? Most other industries would love to have the problem of over-demand right now, railways only seem to see it as a problem not worth solving

@AshValeCommuter I get that. But, back in BR days. They'd have plenty of locos and coaches laying around to strengthen trains etc. Totally different now

So poor from @CrossCountryUK. This Train from Sheffield to Bristol oversold and unsafe. No seats. People packed in standing in aisles, toilets and vestibules in between carriages. It cannot be safe to travel like this. Plus the tannoy is inaudible. Stood from Sheffield to Birmingham in packed carriage by broken toilet. 1 working toilet for 3 carriages. No staff on show. One passenger nearly passed out and had to get off. Train now going in reverse back to Brum having been stationary 15 mins in a tunnel. No one has any idea what’s going on because we can’t hear announcements. This train is unsafe.

@UU_Ess_Pee Not Ideal 😂 This train is literally always this busy, if we don't call it out when it's shit we'll keep getting ripped off, so why not agree instead of trying to find ways to say it's actually not that bad?

@FuriousRoss It’s not ideal from a comfort point of view, but it’s safe. The people saying it’s dangerous are generally the same ones who board trains or remain in them when they get this busy.

@EngFocus For a few weeks maybe, but they'll spend zero pounds on maintenance so they'll be shabby in no time. Also, they're not actually bigger, so they'll still be overcrowded with luggage that doesn't fit overhead everywhere.

As so many of you liked my photo of Whitechapel Station, London yesterday, I thought you may like this one I took a while ago. Man delivering meat from the back of a transit van.
