@aakashgupta Really? He’s never had depression? Not even when he felt looking like this wasn’t good enough?

English

Pavel Durov hasn't had depression in 20 years. His explanation is one sentence: "cope with these emotions and learn to work through them."
What he's describing has a specific name in neuroscience: affect labeling. Putting a feeling into words engages the ventrolateral prefrontal cortex, which sends inhibitory signals down to the amygdala within 300 milliseconds. The same event that felt overwhelming is now quieter. The stimulus didn't change. A different circuit took over the processing.
A 2007 UCLA study (Lieberman et al., Psychological Science) scanned 30 subjects viewing emotional faces. Naming the emotion reduced amygdala activation by roughly 50% versus just looking. The effect was automatic. It didn't require willpower.
The nervous system follows. Labeling an emotion activates vagal tone and shifts the body into parasympathetic recovery: heart rate drops, heart rate variability rises, cortisol clears. Suppressing the same emotion does the opposite. The body reads the unnamed feeling as an unresolved threat and keeps the stress axis pulsing.
The third layer is the HPA axis. Chronic emotional avoidance elevates cortisol, which over months shrinks the hippocampus, which impairs the exact regulation circuits you'd need to process emotions later. It's a feedback loop. Break it once and it starts decaying.
What Durov frames as personal responsibility is what therapists call emotional processing. $300 an hour to teach. Runs on 300 milliseconds of prefrontal activation. Costs nothing.

@macadamia6113 You need black ‘dust’ tea (wagh bakri, Taj Mahal)which is what gives it that strong taste. Boil water add crushed cardamom, one clove and crushed ginger. Then add a teaspoon of the tea for about 2-3 minutes. Add milk till you get the right colour. Simmer and then sieve into cup.

@TPostMillennial It is the most difficult and irritating experience to try and read any article on your website. The ads block everything, they’re gimmicked to open new pages by disguising the ‘X’ close button and you’re barely able to get past the fist para. Absolutely detest it.

@GAFreeland @Daily_MailUS Could be but somewhat misleading to call it breaking news. What’s the statute of limitations going back and correlating deaths of scientists. Its an intriguing issue nonetheless
English

@FuzzyPhenopx @Daily_MailUS Conceivably it's a "Maybe some of these other prior cases ought to be included in the cluster" sort of thing

@EdKrassen Someone inside is messing with him. The script writer, an aide but it’s definitely intentional and that it got picked up so quickly.

Wow this is embarrassing!
Pete Hegseth quoted a fake Bible verse from Pulp Fiction at a Pentagon speech and prayer session yesterday.
The prayer was an adaptation of the monologue delivered by Samuel L. Jackson’s character. In the movie, the character falsely attributes it to Ezekiel 25:17 before a killing, saying:
“The path of the downed aviator is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of camaraderie and duty, shepherd the lost through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to capture and destroy my brother. And you will know my call sign is Sandy 1 when I lay my vengeance upon thee.”

@brockpierson If I recall correctly some games that were heavy on memory actually needed more than one disk to load the full game. My neighbour had this as kids and it would be frustrating that the successful ‘handoff’ to the second disk would be cause for celebration when it worked.

@AutismCapital @CollinRugg Real question is who is the homeowner who got back even before calling the police, is his name really Victor, and does he indeed have a daughter?
English

Real question what is someone supposed to do in this situation? This is California right? So Harry Dresdon, this lunatic, breaks into this guys house, terrorizes his wife and kid, the homeowner races home and then what? He’s supposed to stop him with his kung fu skills? It says he sustained a head injury. Was this guy supposed to wrestle him to the ground? If the homeowner just shot this guy the second he got home, he’d go to prison for the rest of his life being in California. But if he shot him he’d also have no injuries. What kind of incentive structure is this? He even got there before police and he has to somehow subdue a crazy person?
How does this work when he can’t just shoot the guy to keep both himself and his family safe for fear of having his entire future destroyed and families future destroyed without him there because California?

NEW: Police have released more info about the "Harry Dresden" break-in in Fairfield, CA, say both the homeowner & Nichols sustained head injuries.
Police are praising the "actions of the homeowner" who raced home to confront 30-year-old Jason Nichols with a shovel.
Authorities say that the homeowner's wife and child were inside when Nichols broke in. When Nichols was unable to break in through the front door, he broke in through a sliding glass door.
"The homeowner's husband, who was away at the time, observed the suspect through a home security camera and immediately returned to the residence," said police.
"As the suspect entered the home, the homeowner returned, armed himself with a shovel, and confronted Nichols."
"A physical altercation ensued, during which both the homeowner and Nichols sustained head injuries."
"We are grateful that the family is safe and commend our officers for their swift response in bringing this dangerous situation to a safe resolution."
The woman and child were reportedly unharmed.

Brampton families should not have to live like this.
At 5:44 a.m. on Friday, April 10, in Brampton’s southwest area, a homeowner pulled into their driveway, parked in the garage, and within seconds suspects rushed the property during the garage-close window.
Threats screamed. Panic inside the home. Family terrified.
This wasn’t downtown chaos. This was a quiet residential neighborhood.
Criminals are getting bolder, faster, and more organized. They know routines. They watch patterns. They strike in seconds.
People work their whole lives for a home… now some are scared just pulling into their own driveway.
Enough is enough. Public safety has to come first.
