Government e Marketplace (GeM) organised an orientation session for IAS Officer Trainees of the 2024 Batch under the Assistant Secretary Programme (ASP), as part of their ongoing attachment with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. In his opening address, Shri Satya Meena, ACEO, GeM, highlighted the role of GeM in transforming public procurement through technology-driven governance, greater transparency, efficiency, inclusiveness, and accountability. The session introduced the officer trainees to GeM’s institutional framework, key functionalities, and the growing role of digital interventions in strengthening India’s public procurement ecosystem. Discussions also underscored the platform’s contribution towards making government procurement more transparent, efficient, inclusive, and accountable. During the session, Shri Mihir Kumar, CEO, GeM, highlighted GeM’s continued commitment to ensuring fair and reasonable pricing across the platform. He noted that the various measures undertaken in this regard have significantly strengthened GeM’s ability to identify and curb abnormal pricing patterns, thereby enhancing transparency, efficiency, and integrity in public procurement. The officer trainees also had an interactive session with the senior leadership of GeM and engaged in discussions on various operational aspects of the platform, including the grievance redressal mechanism and modes of payment. A real-time walkthrough of the GeM portal was conducted to provide participants with a better understanding of the procurement process and user journey on the platform. 📌#GeMWeeklyBulletin GeM continues to drive large-scale, transparent and efficient public procurement, with deeper institutional engagement across sectors and large-scale orders. #GeMinDelhi GeM was invited to participate in the inaugural session of CCTV TECH INDIA 2026, organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) on 21 May 2026 in New Delhi. Speaking at the event, Shri Ajit B. Chavan, Addl. CEO & Chief Seller Officer, GeM, highlighted GeM’s role in creating business opportunities for the CCTV ecosystem through public procurement. He also emphasised the importance of compliance with mandatory sectoral guidelines and certifications to strengthen the Make in India initiative and ensure a secure and reliable surveillance ecosystem. As part of the celebrations marking the Incorporation Day of the Government e Marketplace (GeM), a workshop on the theme “Accelerating Defence Efficiency through Digital Transformation” was organised with active participation from officials of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, DGAFMS, DGMS DRDO, BRO, Indian Coast Guard and various DPSUs. The workshop focused on deliberations relating to process improvements, technological interventions and enhancement of user experience on the GeM platform, with the aim of better aligning the system with the operational, logistical and procurement requirements of the Defence Services. Discussions were also held on the roadmap for GeM and key functionalities and other digital procurement initiatives intended to enhance efficiency, flexibility, transparency and ease of procurement.
