@BeingJWood The proposed bill did very little for border security. It primarily "fixed" the border by making the current crisis the new normal. E.g., let us look at one claim, as the devil is the details. Mandatory border closure at 5K/day illegal alien encounters.

@hashallthehash @majimagic1 @travis4nh The penalty could be reinstated the next time Democrats have a trifecta. Notice you're just going to disregard how ACA regulations continue to distort the market and increase costs.

@hashallthehash @majimagic1 @travis4nh The ACA individual mandate still exists, it's just been set at zero. ACA regulations continue to distort the market in spite of that. E.g., one can only purchase a catastrophic plan on a yearly basis and only if one is 30 or under.

@hashallthehash @majimagic1 @travis4nh are forced to buy a car. It most certainly is not true. Further, one had significantly more free will re: the variety of plans and coverage if one did decide to purchase. The ACA makes everyone purchase essentially the same plan, but with different deductibles and premiums.

@hashallthehash @majimagic1 @travis4nh Purchasing insurance was a matter of free will pre-ACA. No regulation on the insurance market forced one to buy a policy or pay a penalty equal to the cost of a policy. Your claim here is ridiculous. It's like saying that regulations exist on the manufacture of cars, so you...

@Mattyxy @1amIan @InezFeltscher Piffle. SCOTUS allowed the ACA to survive when they should have ruled it unconstitutional. The ACA was always going to explode costs as it killed competition.

@hashallthehash @ZeddyBrightside @travis4nh It would fit the needs of the 80% of the population w/o pre-existing conditions. To paraphrase the great Thomas Sowell, there are no solutions to many problems, only trade offs.

@hashallthehash @ZeddyBrightside @travis4nh One COA: The hospital could have been mandated to require care, but also allowed to recoup the cost of said care from the individual and/or estate. As it stands, they have to provide the care and hope that CMS will reimburse them after the fact, which frequently is not in full.

@hashallthehash @ZeddyBrightside @travis4nh Ah yes, the appeal to emotion. I'm just a big meanie and all. No, as I've stated elsewhere, there were other courses of action to take other than one that would create the system of perverse incentives that it was easy to predict EMTALA would and did create.

@hashallthehash @ZeddyBrightside @travis4nh You're missing the obvious point that gov't subsidies drive price increases that then necessitate additional subsidies ad nauseum. Ref. the steep increase in college tuition after the 2010 takeover of the student loan market by the federal gov't as part of the ACA. EMTALA, ...

ICE was at SFO airport last night, terrorizing a mother while her daughter watched. So much for the “hey we’re sending ICE to airports to fill in for TSA” BS. ICE OUT OF CALIFORNIA

@TraceyRyniec @InezFeltscher This is a problem that could have been a addressed w/o upending the insurance market for the 80% of Americans w/o pre-existing conditions.

@InezFeltscher No, we couldn't. Not if we had any kind of pre-existing condition. Sometimes couldn't even get ANY insurance.

@hashallthehash @travis4nh The ACA ruined care for far more than 30M. EMTALA created a system of perverse incentives that raises costs for all paying customers. Both pieces of legislation addressed problems that could and should have been addressed via other means.

@GFsomewhere @travis4nh Ah so your solution is to kick 30 million off their health insurance and also let people die in ER parking lots. Such improvement!

@hashallthehash @travis4nh That's the fault of EMTALA, another piece of legislation that should be put down.
