I’m heartbroken by the loss of my friend Kirsty Duncan.
Kirsty was curious, generous, and deeply committed to helping others. She believed in knowledge, compassion, and service, and she brought those values into every conversation and every fight she took on. I learned a great deal from her, and I was lucky to call her a friend.
I’ll miss her greatly. My thoughts are with her family, her friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

They would have no legitimacy even if they won a referendum. You can’t just vote to help yourself to something that isn’t yours — namely, the territory of Canada, all of which belongs to everyone equally.
It’s a free country. You always have the right to leave. You just don’t have a right to take a piece of it with you.
And yes, that applies equally to Quebec.

This point really cannot be made enough. The people speaking to US reps on behalf of "All Albertans" have no democratic legitimacy. 0. They've not been appointed by any democratically elected leader. Their referendum hasn't yet met the minimum bar to move forward. No separatist party has so much as won a by-election in this province.
