At today’s National Sustainability Workshop on #HIV, #TB and #Malaria at Hôtel des Mille Collines, @rrpplus joined national stakeholders including government institutions, private sector, civil society, and UN agencies in shaping Rwanda’s sustainability roadmap for the three diseases. As a network representing #PLHIV across Rwanda, we strongly embrace this initiative led by @RBCRwanda to develop a National Sustainability Plan aligned with #Vision2050 and national health strategies. Over the years, Rwanda’s progress against HIV, TB and malaria has been made possible through strong partnerships between government, donors, and civil society including community-led efforts that have expanded access to services, strengthened adherence, reduced stigma, and supported the achievement of national and global targets. The shift toward greater domestic ownership now comes at a critical moment. For communities, it is not just a policy transition it is a defining test of whether these hard-earned gains will be protected and sustained. For people living with HIV, this roadmap is more than a strategy it is about continuity of care, dignity, and trust in the health system. PLHIV across the country look to this plan with clear expectations: 🔶Sustained and reliable access to lifesaving treatment and prevention services 🔶Strong investment in community-led systems, including peer support and outreach 🔶Formal recognition and financing of civil society through social contracting 🔶Continued efforts to eliminate #stigma and address inequalities affecting #KPs 🔶#Integrated, #peoplecentered services that improve access while protecting quality and confidentiality We believe sustainability must be people-centered, equity-driven, and rooted in lived realities. Without meaningful community inclusion, it risks becoming a financial exercise rather than a transformative one. RRP+ reaffirms its commitment to contribute actively to this process bringing the voices and priorities of PLHIV to ensure that no one is left behind. A sustainable response is one that #communities trust, own, and help lead. #Sustainability #HealthForAll #Rwanda #CommunityLeadership @nsanzimanasabin @JNdayizigiye @TuyishimeAlbert @mutambukaDeo

Air pollution may be affecting babies before they’re even born and the impact could last beyond infancy. A recent study from King’s College London followed nearly 500 infants and found that babies whose mothers were exposed to higher levels of air pollution during early pregnancy scored lower in language development tests at 18 months. On average, these children scored 5–7 points lower compared to those whose mothers breathed cleaner air. The effects were even more concerning in premature babies, especially those born before 32 weeks. These infants not only showed delayed speech development but also weaker motor skills, including crawling and coordination. Researchers looked at common pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide and fine particles like PM2.5 and PM10 substances commonly found in traffic-heavy and densely populated areas. Even levels considered acceptable by current standards may still pose risks during early pregnancy. This highlights something important: air pollution doesn’t just affect lungs it can influence brain development before a child is even born. The burden is also not equal. Families living in crowded or underserved communities are often more exposed, raising serious concerns about health equity and environmental justice. Protecting pregnant women from polluted air is not just about cleaner environments it’s about giving children a healthier start in life and reducing developmental challenges in the future. At Medwell podcast, we continue to highlight how maternal health and early-life exposures shape lifelong outcomes. #MaternalHealth #PublicHealth #GlobalHealth #RwandaHealth @EugeneTuyishim2 @IshimweRegis01 @AfricaCDC @BrianChirombo @rsog_rwanda @medsar_rwanda

Rwanda NGOs Forum on HIV/AIDS and H.P
Today, @RwandaNGOForum , in collaboration with @RBCRwanda , with the support from @unicefrw , successfully conducted a District orientation meeting on Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) and Digital interventions in @Nyamasheke . The engagement brought together District Leadership, Healthcare Providers, Security Organs, Civil Society Organizations, Faith-Based Organizations and community representatives, reinforcing a shared commitment to building disease-outbreak-resilient communities. The orientation provided a platform to align stakeholders on RCCE approaches, strengthen district ownership and ensure coordinated implementation of community-centered interventions. Presentations shared updates on #Cholera #Ebola #Measles #Marburg #Mpox #Malaria and Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers (#VHFs). A key highlight of the meeting was the participatory identification of high-risk villages across priority diseases, alongside the mapping and validation of Frontline Functionaries (FLFs) who are leading community-level engagement and response efforts. The outcomes of this process will directly: ✅ Inform targeted RCCE and prevention interventions ✅Strengthen coordination across National, District and community members ✅ Improve real-time response/feedback mechanisms ✅ Strengthen Community Engagement and Ownership ✅ Utilization of digital tools for RCCE monitoring and reporting ✅ Enhance linkage between communities and health systems ✅ Support to fight rapid spread of misinformation through social media and community networks ✅ Social inclusion of vulnerable groups with respect to Human Rights and Gender approach The presentations demonstrated why a resilient community is essential. Participants emphasized the importance of community ownership, timely information sharing, and sustained collaboration as pillars for effective outbreak preparedness, prevention and response. Reflecting on the interventions that were introduced, a village leader noted that “when communities are actively engaged to prepare, prevent and respond, the benefit is enormous.” Echoing that call from personal experience, the Director General of Kibogora Level Two Teaching Hospital recounted losing a classmate to Marburg virus and stressed, “It reminded me that prevention owned and led by communities is not just more effective—it is far cheaper than waiting for lives to be lost.” We extend our sincere appreciation to Nyamasheke District leadership, health sector actors, Security Organs, CSOs, and community leaders for their active engagement and commitment to advancing resilient and informed communities. #OutbreakPreventionAndResponse #CommunityLedPrevention #CommunityParticipation #CommunityEngagement #PreventionSavesLives #CommunityResilience #Partnership #Collaboration #HealthForAll #LeaveNoOneBehind @RwandaHealth @nsanzimanasabin @JNdayizigiye @RwandaLocalGov @BGakire @edrwagasore @eRemera @TuyishimeAlbert @BrianChirombo @IOMRwanda @UNmigration @Ash_Carl80 @Health_IOM @japaninrwanda @FCDOGovUK @UNRwanda @AurelieRG @ambafrancerwa @EUinRW @EU_Partnerships @UKinRwanda @GermanyinRwanda @bkateera @CHAI_health @DrAdelakin @UNFPARwanda @AndrewGasoziNtw @expertisefrance @EF_LINITIATIVE @PMudakikwa @semakulam @RwandaAgri @Knooliet @Imbuto @eannaso @GatesAfrica @AimableDr @DrDanielNgamije @PATHtweets
