I firmly believe Oilers look at their ex college star Howard and see a lot of former college star Jake Guentzel’s scoring acumen. Guentzel as well spent short period of time in AHL and has never looked back as NHL shooter

Oilers look for some consistency.
They need more shots 5x5 from their blueline, especially their top pair.
Flyers don't score much, but they have defended very well. Offense might be scarce tonight.

I wonder how much of Bowman and Jackson selling McDavid on the future in Edmonton was the fact that as of July 1st, 2026 the Oilers could have as much as 49 million in cap space.
Connor takes a huge chunk but they'd still have 31-33 million to work with and can really cook.

Amazing how things work out.
Used the flexibility to get a guy who was injured for the rest of the season.
Also had Kane in on LTIR but never fully committed to it and the league is still chasing them for it.

@JonathanWillis @Bob_Stauffer Jonathan, I've been thinking of your Nurse for Karlsson trade idea. He's a way better version of Klingberg and could replace him as a partner for Walman. Would have helped against Florida's forecheck too..

I liked @Bob_Stauffer's suggestion of Brett Leason as a possible fit for the Oilers. He's in 75-80th percentile on skating by NHL Edge data, he's 6'5" and had decent possession numbers relative to his usage. He had a bad SH% year; that happens sometimes and doesn't worry me.
