The story of Abdulsalam Mustapha Kachalla (Bomboy), whose private jet was forfeited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Kachalla, who was the Chairman of the Borno State Rural Electrification Board and a member of the project’s steering committee at the time, allegedly used his position to engage in illicit dealings connected to the Maiduguri Emergency Power Project (MEPP). The Maiduguri Emergency Power Project (MEPP) was initiated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to address years of electricity shortages in Borno State following the destruction of power infrastructure by insurgents. The project was expected to improve electricity supply to Maiduguri and surrounding communities, but the reality today tells a different story. He attempted to contest for the House of Representatives in 2023, but the consensus was not in his favour. Now that he has expressed interest in contesting again, the consensus is still not in his favour. However, he insisted that he would not withdraw from the race, and suddenly, the EFCC moved against him. This is our Nigeria today. I am not against his arrest, but why now—because he refused to step down from the race? Meanwhile, someone like Yahaya Bello is still active in the Nigerian political space.
