Focused on what? Honestly, the first thing that crossed my mind walking out of the theater after seeing One Battle After Another was, “Sean Penn is about to win another Oscar, huh?” Do I care about Sean Penn as a person? Not really. Do I think he necessarily needs a third Oscar? Meh. But if you actually watch what he does in this film, it’s really hard to deny how deserving he could be, you can't say that he's a bad winner. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this nomination might be the best of his entire awards-season track record. Yes, even more than Milk and Mystic River. It’s a potential Oscar winning villain performance that I’d put up there with Javier Bardem’s Anton Chigurh and Heath Ledger’s Joker. Raw, intimidating, but also strangely vulnerable. Say what you will about the guy, but Penn can truly act. One Battle After Another somehow made me miss him and reminded me why he’s such a force in the industry. And honestly, the smartest thing he’s done this entire season is simply not caring and knowing when to keep quiet at the right time 😅🤷

You know what is funny yeah? None. Many people have a perception about him based on the fact that he doesn’t give unpopular opinions. That’s why “Players FC” are always angry he’s very blunt. I dont understand this tribal phenomenon where a movie either has to be the greatest film you've ever fucking seen, or it's hot garbage. And no in between. Sinners was a great movie. It was not the best horror movie ever made, nor the best film of the year. But it was great. Marty Supreme was a good movie. It was not the best movie of the year and DEF not the best sports movie ever made. But it was... good. Why cant we just say it was GOOD, and leave it at that??
