The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia firmly serves the national interests of Georgia and fully adheres to its Constitution. The Ministry condemns the pressure exerted on Georgia’s diplomatic service and the calls for sabotage. Attempts by foreign states to interfere in the functioning of the institutions of a sovereign state are unacceptable. The government of Georgia has been resolutely committed to the implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), even prior to obtaining candidate status for EU membership. Therefore, the government of Georgia stands firm to continue irreversible process of European integration based on the Association Agreement that will ensure better preparedness for swift EU accession negotiations. Since the European Union has not yet made a decision on opening accession negotiations with Georgia, claims that the Georgian government suspended negotiations with the EU are not true. The decision of the Georgian government not to raise the issue of negotiations with the EU until 2028 and to decline EU grant budget support does not mean suspension of Georgia’s European integration process. Instead, it seeks to prevent damaging speculations on this issue.

On 8 August 2023 Mr. Irakli Jgenti, Chargé d’affaires of Georgia to the UNOG in his capacity as a Vice-Chair of the Working Group on the strengthening of the BWC has chaired the afternoon session of the Working Group, which took place in Geneva, at the Palais des Nations.

Today @CommunityofDem with support of 🇬🇪🇱🇹🇲🇩🇵🇱🇺🇸 and @URGthinktank organized a side-event on the margins of #HRC53 on the impact of AI on democracy and human rights. Amb. Czech highlighted the risks stemming from AI, including disinformation & discriminatory practices.

#HRC52 has just adopted a Resolution on #Russia-occupied 2 regions of #Georgia 🇬🇪 #UN Human Rights Council 🇺🇳 deplores human rights violations in both regions, refers to @ECHR_CEDH & @IntlCrimCourt decisions & calls for an access of int’l mechanisms to RUS occupied regs of 🇬🇪

Met with @FilippoGrandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees. We highlighted the major projects that are carried out in our country through the organization's assistance& focused on the huge contribution the UN office is providing for amelioration of living conditions of IDPs in🇬🇪.

On the sidelines of #HRC52, I had an opportunity to meet with @volker_turk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. We exchanged views on 🇬🇪's fruitful cooperation with the UN institutions and discussed the difficult humanitarian situation in the occupied territories of 🇬🇪.

Addressed the High Level Segment of the 52nd session of @UN_HRC. Spoke about the complicated environment in 🌎& focused on difficult human rights situation in 🇬🇪's occupied regions. Outlined 🇬🇪's priorities for HRC membership& accentuated severe humanitarian outcomes of war in🇺🇦.

Marking the Soviet invasion of Georgia in 1921 - #Georgian flag 🇬🇪 is flying at half-mast at the Permanent Mission of #Georgia in #Geneva in remembrance of the soldiers and civilians who died during the Soviet invasion.

Ahead of upcoming @UN_HRC 52, held a fruitful meeting w/High Commissioner @volker_turk. Discussed our excellent cooperation, dire human rights situation in occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions of #Georgia, stressed the need of immediate access of #OHCHR to both regions.
