Entirely predictably, the Labour leadership's policies of war, austerity and racism are proving massively unpopular. Copying Reform UK only benefits them. The fear is that Starmer is paving the way to a disaster in 2029. news.sky.com/story/labour-s…

The only people who have been burned alive have been Jewish children, women and men at the hands of Gazans. The only people who have been starved in Gaza have been the Israeli hostages at the hands of Gazans. One really does have to ask whether such a demonstrable inversion of slaughterers and victims is the result of a clinical pathology or just outright evil.
Abier@abierkhatib

@MelanieLatest Not sure, but it might be because people are tired of watching Israel burn children alive and starve the ones who survive. Maybe..

@RoyalMail Why is it so difficult to speak to somebody about a problem with delivery? When you navigate the long-winded automatic telephone responses and then get told the waiting time is 30 min. And later, 40 min., this is appalling customer service.

@paulmasonnews The IHRA definition of anti Semitism is being used to shut down criticism of Israel, as its author Kenneth Stern told me that it could be if it were misused. Many organisations are walking away from this.

Francesca Albanese speaks for humanity when she speaks for Palestinians 🇵🇸: ‘It’s not 75 years since the Nakba.’ ‘It’s 75 years OF the Nakba.’ It’s ethnic cleansing. It’s genocide.

Deeply shocked by Israel’s deliberate killing of the Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif, his colleague Mohammed Qreiqeh and cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa. Israel has now killed at least 186 journalists in the war.

Grieving the loss of one of my best friends, Jim Lovell. His extraordinary legacy is cemented by many space missions: Gemini VII, Gemini XII, Apollo 8 and Apollo 13. Our mutual respect had no limits. The Gemini XII mission we flew together paved the way for the Apollo missions. Heartfelt condolences to Jim’s family. Farewell Jim. You will be missed, my friend. Godspeed!

Mr Friedman @DavidM_Friedman I am Jewish. The evidence that Israel is carrying out a GENOCIDE in Gaza is conclusive. Only those who choose to lie, deny this truth It is essential that we, as Jews, call out this abomination being carried out by Israel
David M Friedman@DavidM_Friedman

Everyone should be revolted by the picture of a starving child. But the questions remain: is the picture real or fake, and who is responsible in the unlikely event that it’s real? Democratic political leaders know the truth. They have access to all relevant information. They know that Israel is acting well beyond any precedent of war to avoid civilian casualties. Their job is to speak the truth and not jump on the anti-Israel bandwagon because it is politically expedient. Their job also is to call out real civilian suffering in Africa and Asia of a dimension exponentially higher than in Gaza. Nothing but crickets however on those fronts. Unfortunately, it appears that more than half of the Democrat Senators are acting on the basis of arithmetic rather than morality. They know that it is Hamas and Hamas alone that is responsible for the suffering in Gaza. But they see more votes on the anti-Israel side and are elevating politics above principle. And in so doing, they are fanning the flames of antisemitism. If only they were as moved by the real pictures of suffering Israeli hostages as they were by the @nytimes fake picture of a suffering Gaza child whose predicament was unrelated to a falsely alleged food shortage. History will not be kind.

Andrew Neil is saying what more and more people are feeling. Britain is broke. People are angry. In my entire lifetime, I’ve never seen Britain like it is right now. It’s rotting from within in so many different ways - caused by terrible governments.

@PippaCrerar If Labour MPs think minor concessions justify voting for a bill that will throw 150,000 people into poverty, they’ve learned nothing from 2015. History doesn’t forget who chose pragmatism over principle when lives were on the line.

Update on Labour MPs and welfare vote: Meg Hillier, who tabled the original wrecking amendment to welfare bill, confirms she'll now vote for it. “I’ve not always been happy about how No 10 has engaged with MPs in general, but on this they acted in good faith: listened, made an offer and honoured it," she tells @guardian Her view reflects that of a chunk of former rebels, while others say they'll hold their noses to back it at second reading, and try to tweak at later stages. Of those who've already decided to vote against, around 40 have signed Rachel Maskell's new amendment. Rebel leaders say others are expected to join them in voting lobbies, but not to sign. But many MPs are yet to make up their minds, and want to hear what Liz Kendall has to say today, after despatch box appearance y'day which made things worse. Some of them are considering abstaining - which could upend the parliamentary maths. But they're haunted by criticism of Labour MP who followed Harriet Harman's whip in 2015 and didn't vote against Tory welfare bill (they abstained). "People are in turmoil," one Labour MP tells me. At this stage, it feels like the government will get its welfare bill through second reading. Just. But it's not in the bag and today will make all the difference.
