@charlie_savage @nytimes Interesting. The midterms are not even here yet, and they are already rushing to put Trump on a circulating $1 coin and commemorative gold coins. You could wait until after the midterms. Unless deep down you know that confidence may not look the same once voters speak.

The Treasury Department is hurtling forward with minting what will now be three different coins with Trump's picture on them -- a $1 that will circulate and two commemorative 24k gold ones nytimes.com/2026/03/19/us/…

It infuriates me each and every day seeing the *direct effects* of Trump's policies making everything more expensive getting a fraction of the blame in the media Biden received due to things *completely out of his control*

It is painfully obvious with the USA. Every time the economy’s done great, jobs created etc. we vote m for Republicans who ruin everything. First Bush, then Trump. And it will happen again in the future. In the end, Fukuyama was right.

i think a lot about @DouthatNYT 's decadence thesis these days. Perhaps humans are bound to screw up stability and prosperity?

The standard response to all letters like this sent to Congress is to impeach and remove that cabinet member.
Dr. Brian L. Cox@BrianCox_RLTW

This should be standard response to all letters sent from Congress to @SecWar from now on: "As Sec'y of War, I do not work for, or report to, you in Congress, [Rep] [Sen] [sender's name]. For additional information, refer to Art. I, § 8 and Art. II, § 2 of the US Constitution."

He's not wrong. I support deporting illegal immigrants, especially criminals. But I said a year ago... You can do this stupidly, or do it humanely. They chose the former, and the public responded. A humane system would've been more accepted, and more successful.

Elon, Andreesen, Sacks, Ackman, Chamath, Vivek, on and on, I remember when for all these guys it was critical to elect Trump because our national debt was a crisis and existential threat to the future of America only he would tackle. Don’t hear so much about that anymore.

America’s infrastructure is falling apart, and you cannot afford to buy home But we’re going to spend another $200 billion in the Middle East Absolutely insane

Pete Hegseth on reports that the Pentagon has requested an additional $200 billion to sustain the Iran war: "It takes it takes money to kill bad guys... We're also still dealing with the environment Joe Biden created which was depleting our stockholds."

The term “escalation trap” is now spreading. Our community is already ahead of it—understanding not just escalation, but the logic driving what comes next. I’ll map the next phase Sunday, Mar 22, 4pm CT on substack live briefing

Blaming Israeli PM Netanyahu for Trump’s decision to wage a war of choice against Iran is a cop-out. It gives Trump deference he frankly doesn’t deserve. Yes, Netanyahu has wanted to see the Islamic Republic collapse for decades. Yes, he tried to convince Trump to do it—and based on public reports, Netanyahu used some faulty reasoning to make his argument more appealing (like the claim that the regime’s demise would be short and sweet once the Iranian leadership was destroyed). But I expect this from Netanyahu. He’s trying to sell his long-standing policy to a guy, Trump, who has far more military power than Israel does. Ultimately, Trump gave the order. Netanyahu doesn’t control the U.S. military. He doesn’t control when the U.S. does or doesn’t go to war. Trump does. So the buck stops with him. Trump has agency of his own. He owns the consequences of his actions.

A $620M loan from the Pentagon for a single startup is insane. This is one of several companies getting federal loans or huge contracts where Trump Jr. is a major investor. That's OUR money. On top of that, the Commerce Dept (under Howard freaking Lutnick) is taking a $50M equity stake in the same company. Again, that's OUR money. We are not the CCP. The U.S. government should not be an "owner" of private business. But again, this is one of many companies the U.S. government now holds equity in (e.g. Intel). It shouldn't be legal for taxpayer dollars to fuel handouts for family members. Obviously, we need to change the laws to prevent anything like this from happening ever again. But the fact that Congress is allowing this is sickening.

Breaking: The President's son is on a heater Donald Trump Jr's fund invested in one of the only U.S. rare earth magnet startups at a $200M valuation Three months later, the Pentagon awarded Vulcan a $620M loan and the Commerce Dept took a $50M equity stake In February, Trump announced a $12B rare earth strategic reserve Today, the company is now valued at $2 billion. That's a 10x for Trump Jr in under a year Vulcan is building the largest rare earth magnet factory outside of China. The U.S. says it needs to stop relying on China, which controls 90% of global rare earth processing The timing is either the greatest coincidence in investing history, or it isn't

This is a bullshit take that I keep seeing I am not rooting for my team to lose We have already strategically lost The morons who can’t admit this obvious fact are drawing us deeper into a crisis that will wreak our ability to defend actual national interests
