My first ancestor who settled in the new world was a former English sea captain who had previously commanded a ship serving under Sir Francis Drake. Captain John Martin was part of the small group of settlers who founded Jamestown in what is now Virginia in 1607. It has been called the "First Landing ," 13 years before the Mayflower landed. My most recent ancestor immigrant was Scot Irish Daniel Cotney who settled in South Carolina colony in 1772. My people and others of the time span tamed, settled, and built this country. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were written to assert the rights of Englishmen in an English colony transitioning to an Anglo- Celtic-American country. Lincoln is the one who invented the Proposition Nation, falsely claiming without evidence that this is what the Founders meant. Hogwash. One has to understand context, and the Founders were just standing up for their rights. Not for the rights of 250 newcomer groups of the future.

There’s almost nobody in the United States who is a true “heritage American.” Your grandparents or great-grandparents were probably Polish or Italian or Irish immigrants. Mine were Slovenian, Greek, and German. The promise of America was just as much theirs as it is ours. That’s the same promise that an immigrant receives today. The point shouldn’t be to eliminate immigration but rather to ensure that all immigrants to the United States come here legally, work hard, share our values, and are completely committed to our Constitution.
